Our Club Birthday (49th) dinner was held last Friday evening at Soul Kitchen – 386 Ruthven St in the CBD. Craig Mathieson did a fantastic job organising the dinner and the menu. The slow cooked beef cheek will be talked about for good while!! It might have been a small crowd for a Club Birthday dinner but the quality of the evening was first class.
On the evening, it was my honour to bestow a PHF sapphire pin to a couple of the very deserving members of our Club. In the dissertations I said that each of these gentlemen exemplified Service above Self.
Both Tony Jarroush and Craig Mathieson were surprised and humbled by their awards.

Geoff Kapernick did a wonderful job organising the Yukana Mothers Day morning tea. Over 50 ladies enjoyed the morning. The St Saviours College Interact Club also had 15 of their members along. My thanks to Phillip Charles, Craig Mathieson, Tony Jarroush, Peter Nalder and Jeff Martin who helped on Saturday morning.

Phil Gillam also did a great job in organising and managing the construction of the yarning circle and firepit at Teen Challenge on Saturday morning. The thanks of the Club should go to Andy Burke and his son Dennis who did a very professional job with the machinery required to move and place the sandstone blocks. Phil and Andy were ably assisted by Mark Redmond, Andrew Kratzmann, Doc Smith while Gary Campbell took the photos included in the Easterly. About 6 or 7 of the Teen challenge crew either helped with the earthworks or made the fabulous bacon burgers that were served up for morning tea.

This Thursday we have a big meeting coming up. Dr Curtis Rayment (of It’s a Mans Issue) will be speaking at lunchtime. The exact details of the amount we will be presented to It’s a Mans Issue are yet to be finalised but it looks like the District will also be “topping up” the contribution.
Members are encouraged to bring their partners along for that lunch meeting. Please ensure the Secretary (Geoff) is aware of any planned extra attendees. The District Governor will be attending that day and it is anticipated that there will be between 18 and 20 extra guests attending.
The April RCTE Board meeting agreed to make a donation of $1500 to Dr Curtis Rayment’s “It’s a Man’s issue” program and add that to the money raised at the Rotary District Conference “Say NO to DV Walk” that was held on the 28th of March.

Gentlemen – please wear your purple Say No to DV shirts.

The final 2 months of the Rotary year are going to be very busy;

  • The Annual Charity Golf Day is on Friday 23rd May. Rod Brown is chasing both raffle items and ticket sales for the raffle. If you have any further questions about the golf day please speak to Steve Davis.
  • The UniSQ Science & Engineering Challenge will be on 20-22nd May. Geoff Kapernick will be chasing members to fill out the volunteer schedule.
  • The “Last” Great Debate with the girls from the St Saviours College Interact Club is scheduled for the 12th of June. Geoff Kapernick spiked our interest when he announced the topic for the debate had something to do with the Zombie Apocalypse!
  • The Annual Club Awards Day will be held on June 19th.

The monthly RCTE Board meeting will be conducted on the evening of Tuesday 13th. If you have any issues to bring to the Board for consideration please speak to myself for the secretary.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.

Regards
Alistair
