The vocational visit to Toowoomba Toyota was great success! I think it was 24 or 25 of us were given a very comprehensive tour of the facility. Brett was very accommodating and answered lots of questions. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that it was hard not to be completely impressed by the set-up Brett and his team have put together in the last 12 years.
A big thank you to Henry and Tony for ensuring all of the logistics and catering ran smoothly.
There are no meeting minutes for last week’s meeting so I will endeavour to cover all of the relevant points.
Eddie Szatkowski (Rotarian relocating to Toowoomba from Victoria) was again a visitor to our club and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the vocational visit.
I announced that Andrew Kratzmann has started at Metroll Steel Building Products as a dispatch manager and will be missing from Thursday meetings for the next 6 months. Andrew plans to still attend social functions, working bees and Board meetings.
Our Partners held a morning tea function on Saturday 12th and by all reports it went very well.
Our Bulletin editor distributed the first edition of the Club weekly newsletter via the ClubRunner platform. There is still some tweaking to do to get it right and if you have suggestions or comments please send them to Roger.
I spoke at the club meeting on the 10th of October about looking to form a working group to oversee the implementation and utilisation of the ClubRunner platform.
The group is Roger Klaassen, Mark Redmond. Geoff Somerville, Henry Campey and myself. We will have our first meeting this coming Wednesday evening.
I must acknowledge the tremendous recent work of Jeff and Sandy Martin in designing and planting out the gardens at The Flexi School.
The Board has agreed to go ahead with supporting the Toowoomba Hospice by catering (cold drinks and BBQ) at their Christmas Carols function on the evening of Sunday 24th November. This will be a fundraising event (with a very modest target) but it will be more about supporting the Hospice and dovetailing with the group of our members who tend the Hospice gardens every Monday.
The meeting this Thursday is “Lift the Lid day” – Donelle Whiteley from Australian Rotary Health will be speaking about the ARH work on Mental health research. You need to wear a Silly Hat !!
The sergeant will be looking to fine those without hats!! (and extract money from those with hats in the name of a good cause)
We will also be presenting a badge to the newest Honorary member of our Club – Mayor Geoff McDonald.
Make sure you plan to attend on Thursday 31st of October. We have managed to pin down Paul Antonio to speak about “Life after Local Government”
The Downs Club MUST HAVE FIRM numbers. Your help is vital as I need to get these numbers to the staff at the club by Tuesday Morning for Thursday’s meeting so they can book others in for lunch.
