Sunrise Rotary Club was able to assist two young students with the purchase of eye glasses. With the assistance of their principle respectively school dean Sunrise Rotary identified two students who were in dire need of funds to purchase eye glasses. Eye glasses that they need to be able to read from the school board and otherwise participate fully in the entire school curriculum

The funds to purchase the eyeglasses were made available by the kind donation from the family and friends of the late Dr. Bert Miller from Nova Scotia. Dr. Miller, an eye doctor by profession, was a regular visitor of St. Maarten as a timeshare owner at Belair Hotel. Sadly Dr. Miller passed away during his last visit on St. Maarten in March of 2008. At his memorial held on St. Maarten family and Belair Beach Hotel timeshare owners and guest donated funds towards eye glasses for children in need as they knew Dr. Miller would have wanted.

Sunrise Rotary Club is very honored to have been chosen to identify these children in need and to therefore make the funds available to purchase the required eye glasses. It is the wish of the Sunrise Rotary Club to raise funds every year to replenish the Bert Miller Fund and therefore to be able to donate more glasses to needy children. On behalf of the children Sunrise Rotary Club wishes to thank all who made these donations possible, especially the family of the late Dr. Bert Miller."
