Announcements
George Vincent reminded members to either make a donation of 2 bottles of wine or send an e-transfer for $40 – these donations will be used to create gift baskets that will be auctioned off at this year’s Rotary Online Auction. The auction will run from Nov 2 to Nov 16.
George also reminded us about the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) event November 2.

Mitch reminded us about the Rotary in Oakville Centennial event in April 2025
- The Centennial Committee includes a couple of members from each of the other Rotary clubs in Oakville and we now need a couple of volunteers from our club
- Please let Mitch know if you would like to know more about this committee
Ralf Soeder gave us an update on the Indigenous Committee and provide a few of examples of the impact our club’s fundraising efforts are having on various Indigenous communities in Ontario.
- Funds donated to Indspire in 2023/24 = $10,000, which will be used to provide scholarships for First Nations, Inuit and Metis students
- Ralf read out a thank you letter from one of the Indspire Building Brighter Futures students
- Funds donated to Water First’s Drinking Water program in 2023/24 = $10,000.
Bob Miskelly thanked everyone involved with the Rotary Golf Tournament. At our next club meeting, Oct 21, we will be joined by Food for Life and by RCOW members (the golf tournament was a joint event with RCOW)
George Farrow mentioned a fireside chat on Wednesday, and his next book signing at the Children's reading room at the new library in Oakville
Trafalgar Senior Homes (TSH) update – from Bob Dodds
- TSH, together with OCHI, has been operating a number of social housing units in Oakville and a few years ago the TSH Board decided to monetize the assets of TSH and OCHI. To date 2 multi-housing units have been sold to the Region of Halton, and all units have remained as social housing.
- TSH are now working with Avison Young with a view to selling another TSH property, always with a view to looking after the residents. Bob presented a novel solution that the TSH Board is considering.

- Frank Morewood asked if RCO Foundation’s involvement would be relevant - it's an option but many reasons why not the best option
- Rod Craig asked if TSH has asked the Region if they are currently interested in acquiring a third property – yes, they currently do not have the funds
