RCO Bulletin, July 19 2021
The meeting was called to order by President Michael at 7:00pm with a toast to Queen and Canada. The invocation was provided by Bob Miskelly.
Attendance:
A total of 19 people signed into the Zoom meeting – 17 members plus 2 guests

Michael C and George V officially welcomed Prem Nair, our newest club member
Mike H reminded everyone to register for our Golf To Give tournament, Monday September 20 – registration will be on our website within the next week-or-so
Michael mentioned that Gary will be chairing the 2022 Speaker Series Committee again, and he is looking for members to join this committee
Michael also ran a quick straw poll on returning to live meetings at the Oakville Golf Club, from September
Classification Talk – Bob Miskelly
Bob was born in Simcoe and has lived in Pt. Dover, Aylmer, and Oakville (for 35 years), and he has a BA degree from Sheridan College
Bob has 2 daughters, 1 son and 4 grandchildren, and his mentors included his father, and a Rotarian called Joe Mennill
His career spanned 37 years, and included positions at Union Carbide, Linde and Praxair
Our speaker, Bashshar Atif, was introduced by Gary Comerford
  • Bashshar talked to the sort of experience he would like all young adults to get, and how Rotary helps to provide this experience, including leadership opportunities
  • At Adventures in Citizenship, he learned about the importance of politics in everyday life
  • Bashar mentioned some of the event speakers, including Salome Meyer (Swiss Ambassador of Canada), The Rt. Hon. Joe Clark (Canada’s youngest elected Prime Minister), The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin (Canadian PM 2003 to 2006), The Hon. Senator Joseph Day, and Theland Kicknosway (Wolf Clan, Potawatomi & Cree Nation)
  • AiC students learned about many subjects, including conflict resolution
  • “I felt so privileged to be there”
  • Bashshar appears to be a confident speaker, he delighted us with his colourful slides, and he was a great advert for AiC!
Bashshar was thanked by Amin Kawar, for his presentation and his enthusiasm
