Outgoing President Amin called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

 

Ralf gave the invocation, and then we observed a minute’s silence for Stuart Lam, who recently died. Stuart was only in his 60s and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

 

Martin led the singing of O Canada and Amin proposed the toast to the King and Canada.

 

Gary collected fines and happy bucks. Gary tested our knowledge of municipal, regional, provincial and federal government – apparently, we are fortunate to have over 100 elected members working for us, here in Oakville!

 

George gave us an update on the transaction with the Region of Halton. Rae talked about this not being the End, it's a New beginning! Gary attended the initial meetings with the residents, with George, and talked about the positive feeling in the room when they talked about how the Region will take over stewardship and make improvements. The Region will be presenting to the residents tomorrow (July 11).

 

Gary also talked about the funds being transferred to the RCO Foundation, with a resulting change to RCOF’s investment strategy and how RCOF and RCO Charitable Fund will be spending the amount earned on our investments.

Amin thanked everyone for their support over the last 12 months, and then passed the gavel to Mahendra.

 

Mahendra thanked Amin and confirmed that our club will continue to operate by Rotary's Vision Statement:

“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves”

• Fundraising and service committees to continue raising and spending funds in our communities – Oakville, indigenous and international

Mahendra thanked us for nominating him as President.

 

Rudy then thanked us for supporting his nomination for District Governor. His 5 years on the executive committee finished June 30 and he is looking forward to spending more time with his RCO family. 

 

Mahendra closed the meeting with a toast to Friends and Rotarians around the World.
