Rotary Club of Oakville – Turnover and Club Assembly, June 24, 2024

 

President Mahendra Shah opened the meeting, with a Land Acknowledgement from George Vincent. Invocation from Ralf Soeder and national anthem led by Hart Jansson.

Bob Dodds announced the Annual BarBQ at 17 Stewart St for residents at the Rotary-owned subsidized-rent apartment tower. To take place on July 17, Wed; volunteers needed to help set up – please show up at 4:30 PM.

 

Ralf Soeder announced that RCO continues to support Global Medic through volunteering together with other clubs at the Global Medic facility in Oakville; last Saturday chickpeas were packaged for foodbanks in Yellowknife.

 

Ralf also mentioned that Ribfest was successful, with 9 vendors, and musical entertainment; Rotarians should endeavour to be more visible in our community work – good means to raise our profile and encourage new membership.

 

Mike Henry - Membership

 

Lynn Childs’ membership is pending approval; Carrie Connolly is applying this week – this would grow our membership to 38 members.

 

Mahendra: Scotiabank has approached our club to see how their staff in Oakville could contribute to community service.

 

Mike Henry – fines and happy bucks; Mike encouraged participation in community-facing events, including the recent bursary distribution event.

 

Bursary distribution 30 bursaries of $3,000 were distributed at an online event – thanks to Jean Wettlaufer and Baljeet for their work on the applicant selections. Sara Cumming was the guest speaker.

 

Darling Home for Kids – respite and hospice care for kids: an $8,000 contribution to be presented tomorrow (June 25).

 

Outgoing Pres. Mahendra reviewed the past year’s priorities and achievements:

Incoming President Mitch Sabsabi outlined his priorities for the 2024/25 year:

 

Continue to focus on increasing membership, and improving member engagement.

 

Mark the ROC’s 100^th anniversary with a successful gala event.

 

Streamline the administration of the club with potential consolidation of Boards.
