RCO Bulletin August 8, 2022
Tour of Patty’s Place at 2250 Speers Rd
Tour Start: 6:00 p.m.

18 Rotarians and one guest:
  • 6 members from Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar
  • 1 member from Rotary Club of Oakville West
  • 11 members from Rotary Club of Oakville
  • 1 Guest, Amin’s wife, Leen Ghannom
We were greeted outside of the front door having to complete a Rapid Covid test prior to entering the building. Thanks to the assistance of Patty’s Place staff this went fairly smoothly.

We were warmly greeted by our host and tour guide, Laura Pizzacalla. Laura is the Donor Engagement Manager for Acclaim Health. She was accompanied by her newest assistant of 4 weeks, Suzanne.

Patty’s Place is a new Dementia Care Centre that opened in October 2021. Laura gave us a detailed tour of this leading edge facility that offers the following:
  •  JIM’s Suite’s which has eight short stay overnight respite beds (the only ones in Halton)
  • A 3D immersive technology room (the first of its kind in Canada designed specifically for people with dementia)
  • The Soper Club – an expanded Adult Day Program for people living with dementia
  • The Walmley Club – an Adult Day Program for frail older adults
  • A Caregiver Cafe with additional caregiver support for families
  • Best practices in dementia friendly design
It was rewarding to observe the names of some of the many donors of this wonderful facility, including various Rotary Clubs from the Halton Region.

Following our tour of Patty’s Place we all met for a meal and drinks at Bronte’s Sport Kitchen. It was fun to have members from 3 Rotary Clubs in Oakville join in on the tour and socialize afterwards.

Our club’s next meeting is in George Farrow’s backyard for fun and fellowship on the 22nd of August. PLAN B: We are working on a potential Plan B and keeping an eye on the weather.
