4. For RCO’s Centennial April 2025 we would like to plan a Gala event, and to that end we need volunteers for a subcommittee to manage this event. Please ask Mahendra for further information or to volunteer.

5. For RCO’s Centennial April 2025 we would like to create a Centennial booklet, or equivalent, to showcase the history of Rotary in Oakville over the last 100 years, plus recent achievements. Some content has been created and added to over the years. Please ask Mahendra for further information or to volunteer for this subcommittee.

 

Bob then told us about his visit to Thunder Bay over the weekend to celebrate another club’s Centennial. Bob was invited as a Past President of that club.

 

Gary Comerford gave us an excellent presentation on the RCO Foundation which resulted in a lively debate.

Gary gave a quick reminder about RCO Club, RCO Charitable Fund, RCO Foundation, Trafalgar Senior Homes and their respective boards of directors.

RCOF is recruiting for a Manager Donations, with the following responsibilities:

A. Review and evaluation and donations and grants

B. Reporting and recommendations to RCOF Board

C. Liaison and communication with Halton’s charities

D. Promotion and Public Relations

The disbursement quota is the minimum amount a registered charity is required to spend each year

[Editor’s memo: “A registered charity can draw on disbursement excesses from the five previous fiscal periods to help it meet a shortfall. If no excesses are available to draw on, the charity can try to spend enough the following year to create an excess that it can carry back to cover the shortfall. RCOF’s Disbursement quota is expected to be approximately $920,000 per year.

1. 50% to Legacy project for 5 yr. period ($460,000 per year, $2.3m in total)

2. Approx. $130,000 annually to the RCO CF

3. Remainder approx. $330,000 per year

For #1 RCOF will only consider a Legacy project that has been endorsed by the RCO Club Board 

For #2 RCOF will only consider donations that have been endorsed by the RCO Club Board and approved by the RCO CF Board

For #3 any Rotary Club can submit a donation request to RCOF, and these requests will rank equally and without preference with direct requests from charities

• Should the Foundation be proactive in Fundraising?

• Should non Rotarians be invited on the board ?

• What is the right size of the Board going forward?

• Should the “Woodside Mews" be moved to the foundation?
