Announcements

Mike Henry announced that the online auction is now up and going. There are several items available including the gift baskets that our club prepared. Members are encouraged to bid for both their own interest and to drive the price up. Members who were not able to send in wine bottles or make cash donation thus far, can still do that by sending 40 dollars to the treasurer. Those who have the sings can put them on there lawns for promotion

 

Mitch advised that the centennial committee is meeting regularly to plan our event along with other clubs. However, it needs a leader from RCO and asked for somebody to volunteer to chair the committee as soon as possible.

 

President Mitch also advised that due to unforeseen circumstances at the Golf club, we will not be able to give us the full hall to host our Christmas Event on the 16^th of December. The best option will be to change that date to the 9^th. We will discuss matter with the other rotary clubs and confirm the new date by weeks end.

 

Frank Morewood led the fines and Happy Bucks. There were quite a few going around with a very special one form Frank who has just turned 90 years old. The members took a few moments to sing him happy birthday. As for fines it was one cleaver question: who can remember the rotary four-way test and those who forgot were fined.

 

Guest speaker

Reena Sandhu Introduced the speaker, Doug Edwards, who is a longtime Rotarian from the Kitchener club. He has been a member since 1978 and headed many efforts during that time including being the president of his club. He currently heads the Rotary Project Partnership which he will be speaking about.

 

This is a joint effort of ten clubs including RCO. The idea is to work together to deliver impactful international projects relatively quickly. It involves 10 clubs maximum. All members are equal contributing a specific amount to the project totaling 3250 per year. The funds are then matched by district. The amount will be used for an approved international project that will have high benefit to the community it serves

 

The objective is to deliver eight international projects per year in addition to one global project on a Bi-annual basis. Several projects are under execution in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Kenya. It has proved to be an expedient method to deliver international projects with high impact.

 

It was an interesting presentation and would be something that the RCO could continue to be involved in.
