Guest Speaker Hazel Garde:
Hazel is a teacher candidate at York University who is very passionate about supporting our indigenous community in Canada. When she identified that students in northern remote areas of Canada were paying an extraordinary amount for basic school supplies such as pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners and geometry sets, to name but a few , she took action. Through local donations and support from major retailers such as Home Depot, Diva, Fortinos and Sobeys, she was able to gather enough goods to ship up to several remote communities. Hazel was able to send not only school supplies but clothes and sanitary products to the most needy communities, such as Cambridge Bay NV and Tataskweyak. Hazel is still actively fund raising to support the organization that she started “Northern Supplies for Success”.
Thanking of speaker- Reena thanked our speaker and commended her on behalf of the entire club on the very important work that she has undertaken.
Next Meetings – Feb 7 & Feb 28 (no club meetings on Valentine’s Day or Family Day)
Rod closed the meeting with a toast to friends and Rotarians around the world.
