“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give"
Sir Winston Churchill
Welcome
Aren't new beginnings exciting!
Hello and welcome to YOUR newsletter. Here is a dedicated space for us to share our news, announcements, and all things Rotarians get up to when Rotarians do Rotary.
Our global theme for 2019-20 is Rotary Connects the World: so let us build the connections that allow talented, thoughtful, and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through our Rotary service. Together we succeed with the 4-way test as our light and beacon.
In the upcoming newsletters, we will put the spotlight on a Rotarian from around the world, and a Rotarian from our club so that we can find inspiration from all around us and grow these stories from the power of one to the power of many.
We've had quite a buzz since our return from summer break forming committees, discussing roles and responsibilities as well as a fair share of budgets and planning. As everyone got settled into their new roles, we continued our gift of giving and service.
We announced the successful results of our Gift of Life collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Jordan where we have contributed towards life-saving heart treatments of 44 refugee children.
RCO was there for the grand opening celebration of the new Smile Zone at Woodview Mental Health and Autism Centre in Burlington.
We enjoyed an amazing day on the greens supporting RCO's fundraiser Golf-To-Give 2019 where we raised funds for our charitable trust that go towards projects that help our local communities.
Our members enjoyed a night of fun and games as well as networking at the first Cluster event hosted by our District Governor Leslie Barmania. We learnt about the projects the other Oakville rotary clubs support, and met members from our newly formed Passport Club and Rotarct Club. It was great catching up with old friends, and meeting new ones too!
We participated at the Small Business Trade Show sponsored by the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. We had a great time meeting people and businesses from our community and some of us enjoyed a session of beer tasting while they were there!
We learnt about The Citizen's Foundation and were taken by the inspiring story of how a few good men came together to find an answer to a pertinent problem. Sound familiar? TCF President Sajid Salman, and KPMG Digital President Armughan Ahmad talked about the foundation's work in addressing the problem of the gap in female education in Pakistan. TCF strives to remove the barriers of class and privilege thus making the citizens of Pakistan agents of positive change and an inspiration to the rest of the world.
Kyle Byoko of Inspiretech Canada shared how his interest in our youths future sparked the momentum to create this newly formed non-profit. Inspiretech Canada is the first regionally based organization committed to providing an alternative funding network and platform that all levels of Youth Robotics Teams can access; From Elementary, High School to Post Secondary.
open to RCO members and the public. So if you've missed the first one, do attend the upcoming event to learn more about how you can get involved
