Rotary club of Oakville – Salvation Army Presentation - SEP 25th, 2017

President Len Warrington opened the meeting and Frank Morewood led us in the convocation and the national anthem, followed by a toast to the Queen & Canada.
 
 
Rudy Habesch shared the highlights of the district conference held on 23 SEP 2017, which included a symphony hour concert, peace scholar’s presentation, and Polio Vaccination training presentation. Frank Morewood added that the leaders of Polio Plus program in Afghanistan were also peace scholars.
 
Len Warrington updated the club about Jan, Feb, and March meetings which will be held in the Oakville Golf Club instead of Seasons restaurant on Lake Shore after the Golf Club decided to open for us on winter Monday’s.
 
On Oct 2nd meeting the board will meet with DG Kathy Dick after the general meeting.
On Oct 16th our meeting presentation will be about the RI Toronto convention by John Carr
On Oct 30th our meeting presentation will be about Halton Housing by Andrew Balahura
 
Happy bucks & Fines conducted by George Farrow challenging the members with questions from the Rotarian magazine – and of course the bucket won the bucks!
 
50/50 conducted by Rudy Habesch and Bob Dobbs won the draw.
 
Len Warrington thanked Dana Dennaoui on her performance as the POD Captain for
September 2017.
 
John Smith introduced our gets speaker from the Salvation Armey Major Mike Hennessey, here is John’s introduction:
 
  • Our Club has a long history with the Salvation Army.
  • RCO bought them a new van in the 90s.
  • RCO participated with SA at LCBO and other locations with Christmas kettle drums.
  • Mike has joined the Salvation Army in 1982, and moved to Oakville   2 years ago
  • Mike’s wife Valerie is also a Major and they have two sons at Ryerson university and at Tyndale Biblical College.
  • Mike has served SA in the West, Maritimes & Ontario, and have strong ties to Quinte and Prince Edward County.
  • Mike’s hobbies include watching old movies and enjoy spending time with his family!
 
Major Mike Hennessey thanked rotary for all the support and dedication to the SA mission, and he shared a comprehensive presentation about their operations, management process, and food drives activities. Also, he extended an invitation for our club to join the Christmas Kettle in December at the Oakville Place Mall. – RCO needs to confirm by November 4th if we would like to join – John Smith is our liaison with SA.
 
Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM by president Len Warrington with a toast to friends and Rotarians around the world.
