Bulletin June 19, 2017

President Tareq Nasser called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

George Farrow gave the blessing.

Frank Morewood led the singing of the National Anthem.

President Tareq proposed the toast to the Queen and Canada.

He introduced the following: Sally Ann Gibson, our newest member, transferred in from the Hart Lake Club; Dana Dennaoui, prospective member; and Mahendra Shah, guest of George Vincent.

Judy Warrington asked members to complete the questionnaires on the tables. A debriefing of the successful event with Romeo Dallaire will be held this coming Saturday morning at the Warrington’s. Member feedback will be helpful.

Anyone who wishes may attend.

Bob Dodds collected happy bucks and fines.

Not too many (only those who had attended the International Convention) knew the name of the incoming President of RI.

Len, having attended the convention, encouraged everyone to attend next year’s convention when it is held in Toronto.

Graham reported plans for the Golf Tournament are progressing well.

All hands on deck for next Monday, June 26!

Len, incoming President, invited everyone to complete the questionnaire regarding their interests for involvement next year. He has established a committee structure which the incoming Board will be discussing at its meeting on June 22.

George Farrow reported that 5 bottles of wine were left from the Romeo Dallaire event, which members could purchase and contribute to the wheelbarrow of wine if they had forgotten to bring theirs.

He sold out in no time!

President Tareq introduced our speaker, member Judy Warrington.

Judy described how she has been taking high school students, their teachers, parents, and Rotarians to the Dominican Republic for many years. She showed pictures of what her organization ‘Go See Do’ does there.

She described the poverty of the area and the extreme needs of the people there.

Students benefit from the experience through contributing to the construction of buildings and making improvements in the lives of the people. In the beginning Judy went looking for students; now students are looking for her!

They now find her on her website and apply to be a participant in her trips to the DR.

The application process is a rigorous one which ensures every trip is a success. Judy’s enthusiasm and strong organizational skills make each trip a significant contribution to the lives of the Dominican people.

Amin thanked Judy for her presentation.

President Tareq reminded members of the Golf Tournament next Monday.

The next regular meeting of RCO will be the changeover on July 10 at the Oakville Golf Club.

Graham will send directions to the golf tournament via email.

President Tareq proposed a toast to Friends and Rotarians around the World.

Happy Dominion Day Weekend!
