We awarded more than $26,000 in grants during Rotary Year 2015-16 and also sponsored Grandparents Day festivities at our adopted nursing home, ComForCare. We gave $7000 in college scholarships to the Asian Chamber of Commerce ($3000) and to the Willbern Heritage Scholarship Foundation ($4000).
Nearly $4000 of our grant money went to water projects in Columbia and Haiti, partly in partnership with other Rotary Clubs and Living Waters for the World.  And Morning Glory Ranch will have a more bearable summer of equine therapy thanks to our $3000 donation for a much needed arena-fan. Ten deserving students from Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School received a special “Shop-With-A-Cop” adventure as our Christmas SHARE project ($2800), and we also donated $1000 to the Bellaire Little League.
Continuing the year’s youth-oriented focus, the club donated $2000 each to help homeless youths at Covenant House and to support work of The Harris School with above-average students who suffer underlying social or emotional difficulties. $1800 went to Bellaire’s Nature Discovery Center for the purchase of 23 top quality binoculars that will be used in both children's programs and adult nature walks. $1000 went to support The Rotary Foundation’s humanitarian works, and we bought a lamb and hog ($700) at the Bellaire FFA’s annual auction, donating the animals back to the chapter.  A year to be proud of – Rotary works and makes a real difference in lives around
