The color PURPLE is significant in Rotary's fight to end polio.

After a polio immunization is given, the newly vaccinated person gets purple ink applied to his "pinky" finger - - it's called the PURPLE PINKY.  The beautiful PURPLE CROCUS has now been adopted by the End Polio Now campaign to energize and remind everyone of the importance of immunization in defeating this devastating disease. World Polio Week is celebrated in 2015 during the third full week of October, and October 24 designated as World Polio Day during which a livestream theme event was sponsored in NYC by Rotary International.
