Bellaire Rotarians are sponsoring a special Christmas "Shop with a Cop" shopping trip at Target in Meyerland Plaza for 20 deserving students and their families from Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School. A uniformed Bellaire police officer will volunteer time to accompany each student as they spend $50 donated by our club on gifts for the student's family, after which each student will  receive, as a surprise, an additional $50 to spend on themselves. The two-day project is scheduled for Monday, December 14, at 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday, December 16, at 2:30 p.m. The December excursion provides a learning-experience, as well as a fun-filled day, for children in need because the students learn budgeting as they figure out how to allocate the Christmas funds among their various family members.  Bellaire Rotarians will wrap all the packages before the youths take them home, and Bellaire Police Chief and Rotarian Byron Holloway will be on hand, along with Rodriguez Elementary Principal Elena Martinez-Buley (Pictured at left: photo credit Village News/Southwest News), to visit with parents while the children shop. This is the second year local Rotarians have partnered with the police to sponsor this program, and the number of students participating has doubled.
