Bellaire Rotarians joined other volunteer readers at Rodriguez Elementary School in the Read Across the Globe Project held Oct. 19. The literacy event was part of the HISD Literacy department and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation / Volunteer Houston Points of Light Project to attempt to establish a new world record for reading to the most children within a 24-hour period. Breaking the record required, in part, that children (in groups of no more than 35) be read to for at least 30 minutes.
During the next few weeks, evidentiary submissions will be sent in to the Guinness Book of World Records. Regardless of whether a new world record was set, both participants and students had a wonderful time. Thanks to our photographer, Steve Magoon, for the pictures - click to enlarge for better viewing.
