Do you know a college senior or post-grad student ready for the opportunity of a lifetime?  Bellaire/SW Houston Rotary seeks college seniors and post-grad applicants to sponsor as applicants for $30,000 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship/Global Grant Scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year.  Bellaire Rotary must receive applications by October 1st and will submit club-finalist application(s) to the Rotary District 5890 Scholarship Committee on October 23rd.  District finalists must attend mandatory interviews in Houston on November 21, 2014. In recent years, Bellaire Rotary has sponsored four finalists who received Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships to study in Austria, Australia, London, and Uruguay. Rotary’s Ambassadorial Scholarships fund one year of post-baccalaureate study at a recognized university in a non-U.S. country to study a discipline that supports the Object of Rotary and the Mission of The Rotary Foundation (see www.rotary.org).  Applicants’ planned studies must lead to sustainable, high-impact outcomes in one of the following six areas of Rotary focus: peace and conflict prevention / resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and/or economic and community development. Click here for more about the Six Areas of Focus of Policy Statement of The Rotary Foundation.   A successful Global Grant Scholar applicant will possess the following qualities: excellent leadership skills and potential; a proven record of success in her/his academic field or vocation; demonstrated personal commitment to community service; well-defined and realistic goals; concrete ideas as to how she/he will make advances in her/his chosen career; and a sincere desire to maintain a lifelong relationship with Rotary after the scholarship year.

August 1 - October 17, 2015 – Bellaire/SW Rotary Scholarship Selection Committee reviews applications and interviews applicants as applications are received.
October 10, 2015 - Deadline for Bellaire/SW Rotary Club receipt of applications.  Mailing address: Bellaire/SW Rotary Club, 5202 Spruce Street, Bellaire, TX 77401. The scholar must have selected the university that he/she wants to attend.
October 18, 2015 - Bellaire Rotary selects finalist(s) who the club will sponsor to advance to the district-level interviews on November 21, 2015. 
October 23, 2015 - Deadline for Bellaire/SW Rotary to submit application(s) of club finalist(s) directly to the District Ambassadorial Scholarships Chair.
November 21, 2015 - District interviews will be held for scholars wanting to begin study in 2016-2017.  If the candidate is unable to be interviewed in person that day, due to scheduling conflicts, he/she will not be eligible to receive a scholarship.
January 9, 2016 – Global Scholar Elect Training Seminar (GSETS) in Houston, Texas.  This seminar is for the successful candidates from the interviews. Attending this seminar, or one in another state, is mandatory prior to beginning the scholarship year.
