The Story of the Declaration of Independence

Dr. Christopher Hammons is the Director of the Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty and a professor of Political Science at Houston Baptist University.  He teaches courses in constitutional history, politics, and presidential elections. Dr. Hammons holds a BA in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's and doctorate in Political Science from the University of Houston. He has been at HBU for over twenty years and served as Department Chair, Graduate Program Director, and Dean of the School of Humanities.

He has published articles in the American Political Science Review, the Albany Law Review, The Journal of Law & Public Policy, Education Next, the Houston Business Journal, The Federalist website, and the Houston Chronicle.  He is currently writing a book on the Federalist Papers.  He recently released an edited volume of essays on the American Founding called Origins of Our Principles. His first book, Constitutionalism of the American States, was nominated by the American Political Science Association for best book in history and politics.

Dr. Hammons is the recipient of several teaching awards and is a sought-after speaker on the American founding.  He serves as Director of the Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty at HBU which is dedicated to promoting understanding and appreciation of our nation’s history and founding principles.  In Dr. Hammon's classes, students actually read the Constitution.

He lives in Sugar Land with his wife and two children.
