Glenn Hamer, President / CEO of Texas Association

The State of Business In Texas

Aug 25, 2022 12:00 PM

A torchbearer for the business community, Glenn Hamer has a proven track record for success in the public policy arena. He testified before the 87th Legislature, second day on the job, and made meaningful contributions to the passage of top legislative priorities for the business community (including broadband expansion, “Keep Texas Trucking,” pandemic liability protections, and preventing astronomical increases in Unemployment Insurance).

Since the pandemic, Glenn has made it his mission to visit more local chambers of commerce than anyone else on the planet. He connects businesses, small and large, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to protect Texas’ pro-business climate. Glenn is proud to be a part of the Texas Camino Real District Export Council, American Society of Mexico, and National Immigration Forum. He also serves on the board for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and chairs its committee of 100 (CCC100).

Glenn came to TAB after 14 years as CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry — where he played a central role in major tax, education, legal and healthcare victories. He was at the forefront of the business community’s advocacy for the United States-Mexico- Canada Agreement (USMCA). Glenn is a highly regarded international issues expert and has joined governors, mayors, and the U.S. Chamber on trade missions to China, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Israel, and the United Kingdom. Recognizing the global race for talent to keep our economy strong, Glenn is also a recognized champion on immigration reform.

Glenn has also served as chief of staff to Arizona Congressman Matt Salmon, executive director of the Arizona Republican Party, legislative assistant to Sen. Jon Kyl, and executive director of the Solar Energy Industries Association.

A graduate of Cornell University and Arizona State University's College of Law, Glenn is married with three daughters, all of whom exhibit a strong entrepreneurial spirit. His wife Tali is quadrilingual, and their daughters are bilingual (English and Hebrew).

August Club Social
Aug 25, 2022 6:30 PM

Our first Club Social of the year will be on Thursday, August 25, at 6:30pm at Kaliko's home (4903 Palmetto St, Bellaire). Please bring your favorite appetizer, drink or dish to share. We are celebrating the new members we've had join our club in the last couple of years. COVID kept us pretty limited with our socials so here is our change to get together again for fellowship and fun! Families are welcome.

Our club socials are also a perfect opportunity to invite a friend or colleague to learn about Rotary in a low-key setting and meet current club members.

For questions, contact Social Chair, Shana Ellis.

DG Mindi Snyder Collaborative Visit
Sep 22, 2022 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Mindi Snyder and her husband Jeff live in the rural city of El Campo where she was raised.  They enjoy spending time with their children, Shelby (who married Colby Kane) and Colby Lee who is married to Morgan, and their beloved grandsons Matthew and Watson.  They are also excited to be welcoming another grandson, Jackson, in the fall.  All love outdoor activities and traveling.  Mindi is a CPA and is now working with Gunda Corporation as a Client Services Manager after 24 years in Municipal Government roles as Finance Director and City Manager.

Mindi joined Rotary in 1995 and has been a member of Wharton, Rosenberg, and El Campo Rotary Clubs where she served in many roles including Club President for 2004-2005. El Campo Rotary chartered two Interact Clubs at the High School and Middle School and started an EarlyAct FirstKnight Character Development program under her direction as New Generations Chair.  One of her continued roles for many years in El Campo has been Foundation Chair and she was very proud that El Campo Rotary achieved 100% PHF status.

Mindi served as Assistant Governor twice and has been on the District Youth Exchange Committee and served in various roles from Inbound Coordinator to Youth Exchange Officer since 2001.   Mindi and Jeff have hosted many Rotary Exchange Students and their daughter did a short-term exchange to The Netherlands.

As the Chief of Staff Youth Services, Mindi helped facilitate the communication between all youth service areas and District Leadership and as Club Advisor for the community-based Rotaract Club of El Campo and the newly chartered El Campo Literacy Advocates Rotary Club.  Jeff has been a long-time supporter, chaperone, and driver for the Youth Exchange Students at the District level and he transferred his membership to the El Campo Rotary Club this year so both are excited to be serving our community together going forward.

Mindi has been recognized as Rotarian of the Year twice by the El Campo Rotary Club in 2004 and 2019 and, most recently she received the District Rotarian of the Year honor for 2018-2019.

Mindi and Jeff are both Paul Harris Society Members, Polio Plus Society Members, Major Donor Level II and Bequest Society Level I donors to the Rotary Foundation.  Jeff and Mind were recognized as members of the White Hat Society last year.

Melissa Williams Murphy

Oct 06, 2022

Melissa M. Williams Murphy is a children’s author, the founder of the iWRITE Literacy Organization, and the Executive Director of The Bryan Museum. Melissa’s background in psychology has influenced the framework to her writing programs, giving students a voice and giving educators and parents the tools they need to create a positive association with writing.

She established iWRITE in 2009, after a year-long book tour where she heard elementary students ask her the same question over and over, “Can kids be authors too?” That question sparked the idea for the I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids Annual Publishing Contest, now in its thirteenth year, giving students the opportunity to become published authors.

Melissa has written and published twelve books for children ranging from the K to 6th grade level and presented to students in over 250 schools across Texas. She makes learning fun for kids while still aligning lessons with TEKS standards for Texas education. Her most recent creative writing program and curriculum revolves around the “i” The Guy cartoon character and writing mentor. The mascot appears in numerous iWRITE resources for teachers and students, including writing workbooks in English and Spanish, a Texas History journal, online curriculum, and television programming. Melissa is most excited for her next big project through iWRITE and The Bryan Museum, to publish 1,000 students in the largest published book in the world called, I Am Texas, and break the Guinness World Record in November 2022. She loves spending time with her husband, Matt, and two little boys, Jackson and Colton, in Houston, TX.
