Researchers say Karenia cristata, the algae species behind the toxic bloom on South Australia's coastline appears to be extremely dangerous, even in tiny amounts.
In simple terms: The bloom was not just large - it involved a kind of algae that may be unusually potent, which helps explain why the event was so damaging.
