Minutes of the Missoula Sunrise Rotary Meeting November 25, 2009.

This week we joined together to celebrate Thanksgiving. We were sans speaker and President Susan Hay Patrick (who was out due to a second round of the wedding celebrations).  Arnie Didier stepped up to the plate to orchestrate a casual meeting to the kick off of holiday weekend.

Jason Ludemann began by leading us in the pledge of allegiance. Justin Metcalf presented yet another wonderful invocation focusing on the process of giving thanks and counting our blessings.

David Bardwick announced our guest Jim Hutcheson from the noon club and presented a group of hilarious and inspiring photography for our viewing pleasure.

Susan Anderson announced a need for volunteers for an ice skating party with the Youth Homes children on Thursday December 3rd.  Also Cynthia Bryan will be hosting the annual Christmas celebration at her home and would love any suggestions for caterers, as she will be changing over to a new vendor. Signing up for this event would also be appreciated.

Bobby Clay announced that Ramey has set up a tour of the Gallager house, among other Youth Homes houses, on December 13th and will need to hearfrom those interested via sign-up sheets in meetings to come. Also the gifts for the kids from Youth Homes need to be in by December 16th and should be unwrapped or in an unsealed bag.  Darko Butorac announced that the Symphony is to perform a carol ensemble on December 5th and 6th - there are about 150 tickets available at the Symphony office.  Gene Sterbis was glad to add that the word on the street is that the conductor of the Symphony is quite specific and talented in the realm of his music selections and the show should be worth seeing!

Susan Anderson then screened a collection of videos via Youtube.com of Interact Clubs across the globe. These ranged from a group of troubled teens in South Carolina to Bulgarian Interacters making a difference in their community. Arnie then thanked Annie Gerken for minutes and Bill St. John for audio/video support for this week's meeting.

Next was Lynda Frost who gave a classification talk regarding her "many hats" in which she dons in her 22 years of service at Montana Rail Link (making a total of 25 in Washington Corporation). As she displayed her many hats, literally, Lynda described her various positions including: communication with employees (in the appropriate railroad ticketer hat) in which she edits a newsletter and publishes a calendar of railway photos (she left examples of these on the tables). She also maintains safety at derailment sites (wearing a hard hat), public relations (media's black "press member's" hat) and special events coordination (a sassy grey number). She claims to have been "Shang-Hai-ed" into community involvement while sporting an Indiana Jones inspired piece and finally changed into her final conductor cap where she transitioned into the idea behind our upcoming Money Train event as David accompanied with a train whistle.

Rusty Lockner added that without the Montana Rail Link, our event and the $20,000 it raised in previous years wouldn't happen. Donations for the event include the actual train cars (by Montana Rail Link) and raffle/silent auction items from Rotarians. In past years items have been in the nature of time-share condos and brook trout dinners, items are needed for donating this year. Also, some questions considered were which routes to take. The response was: probably a Westerly passage towards Superior and/or Dixon.

A last announcement was that Bobby Clay, Rusty Lockner, Anne Guest, Chris Warden and Van Blakely have written a grant request for Big Brother and Big Sister of Missoula in order to improve sustainability and add more staff to the project. The group was then left to some time to catch-up and treated to the video of this year's Who's Who Revue featuring some key cast members recreating a scene of an elk bugling manifesto.

The meeting was adjourned following a recitation of the Four-Way-Test and new members were reminded to meet at Environcon next week.
