The 15-kilowatt photovoltaic array and 15 kilowatt lithium battery backup will provide solar power for the refrigeration system and will guarantee the availability of power to the entire Bordeaux Farmers Market, Rotary officials said.

Long-time proponents for environmental protection, regeneration, and sustainability, and following the lead of other Rotary Clubs around the world, members of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East took steps in March to start the process of renaming the club - the Rotary Club of St.Thomas East ECO.    
 
In honor of World Water Day (March 22) and Earth Day (April 22), and recognizing the issues we have with plastic pollution in our oceans, Rotary Club of St. Thomas East is implementing the first annual “My Caribbean Sea” Poster, Poetry, Essay Competition, for students, K-12, in the St. Thomas/St. John School District, public and private schools. There will be six age categories, as follows:
Grades K-2: Poster.  Grades 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12:  Essay/Poem.  
 
The goal is to invite children to take ownership of and think about the water which surrounds their islands, and develop awareness about how they can help keep it clean and pollution-free.
 
We believe this competition model can be easily duplicated in other islands throughout our Rotary District 7020 and the rest of the Caribbean in coming years, with the benefit of widely-increased environmental responsibility throughout our region.
 
The competition was launched March 11, with a deadline for entries April 10, and awards on April 20.
Big kids, little kids, Rotarians, Interactors ... we all had a great time at Breakfast with Santa!!
We served 200 breakfasts, we donated 70 Sawyer waterfilters and lunch bags of supplies to families, we painted faces for fun, and finger nails for charity ... Did I say, we ate pancakes??

I just wanted to give a big shout out and heartfelt thank you to many members of Rotary East.   Despite the challenges and repercussions within the Club of the recent news that key members of the Club Leadership Team will be relocating to the States or elsewhere within the next few weeks, Rotary Easters and friends have accomplished wonderful Service to Humanity in the last two weeks, demonstrating to the max "Service Above Self."
Rotary East celebrated their "Presidential Handover" and installation of the incoming Board of Directors with a well-attended and jovial World's Greatest Meal to Help End Polio, which raised $343 from Happy Dollars and raffle proceeds towards Rotary's efforts to eradicate Polio.

My friends:
The shadows are lengthening and the twilight draws near.
Soon, this convention will pass from experience into memory.
A day from now, this place, this time, will exist only in each of us —
in the stories we will tell of the days we spent together, here in this world of Rotary.
 
We strive to do good things in the community, we strive to support the passions of our club members, we all want a safer, gentler Virgin Islands ... Let's support the dedicated work of Rotarian Celia Carroll, and embrace the V.I. Walk/Run Against Gun Violence ... and get out and walk, run, hobble, crawl ... whatever it takes!!!
Please join us on Wednesday May 18, as we discuss ways to bring new vibrancy, new members, and implement new ideas in our club!  The RI Council on Legislation has opened doors for clubs to be more flexible in many ways ... Let us be innovators and help make Rotary work even better in today's world!  Help us take the first step to embrace constructive change ...

Little dogs, big dogs, little people, big people, big fun, big sombreros, big margaritas, big music, big-time grand time was had by all ... Team leader Rotary Easter Lynn Delaney and her merry band of volunteers created a better-than-ever event on May 5, 2016 ... Thank you to Rotary East members and all the amazing sponsors!!! The winners of course are the young children of St. Thomas who will benefit from the funds raised at the event ... All children entering first grade in the public elementary schools in the fall will receive a Rotary backpack filled with reading books and school supplies ...
 
The US Virgin Islands was noticeably "in the house" at the recent Rotary District 7020 Conference in Nassau, Bahamas.  Members of all USVI Clubs posed on the Red Carpet wearing matching red shirts ... and made their presence known with great fellowship and the winning of lots of awards!!! Congratulations one and all!!

The members of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East are delighted to welcome USVI Commissioner of Education Dr. Sharon McCollum as an honorary member of the club.  Dr. McCollum is the former principal of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Rotary East's adopted school, and she was instrumental in facilitating a very positive relationship between the school and the club.  Dr. McCollum will be inducted at Rotary East's weekly meeting this Wednesday, September 23rd, 6:30pm, at Paradise Cove's Inspiration Hall on Ridge Road (which runs between the traffic lights and Secret Harbor).  Please RSVP by text to Greg Miller 340-690-1083 if you would like to attend. Meeting fee is $22, which includes buffet dinner.
