Marcus Stevens is the recipient of Rotary Club of St John's 2011 Javon Jade Alfred Memorial Scholarship.  Marcus is the son of Deverell Alfred, and also the brother of our 2009 Scholar, Malik Stevens, a testimony to the family's emphasis on education.

Marcus will study accounting at Florida International University in Miami.  He will graduate from Charlotte Amalie High School this year.  You may remember that he was Valedictorian in his graduation from Julius E. Sprauve School a few years back.  The scholarship committee is certain that he will continue to excel and are proud to be associated with his continuing education.

The scholarship is for a total of $12,500 paid over four years: $5000 for year one, $3500 for year two, $2500 for year three and $1500 for year four. It is awarded by the club in memory of Javon Jade Alfred who was struck and killed by a truck walking home from school. Previous scholars include Kershen Bissette, Claudia Verdant, Malik Stevens, and Timmy Newton.  Kershen graduated last year and has embarked on his masters. Claudia graduates this year and will be commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.  Rotary of St John is very proud of our young people.
