The Answer:  Kathi Dick from Cambridge North

BIRTHDAYS
Congrats to Darren Sweeney whose birthday is the 26th and to Ray Taylor who has a birthday on the 30th.
HAPPY JAR

Neil Swayze was happy to have won the previous 50/50 draw as is his wife Donna who is enjoying spending the $339.50.  Neil is also happy to have had a great day selling Car Draw tickets at the Market last Saturday.

Louise Gardiner was happy to have celebrated family birthdays last weekend and to have had the opportunity to look after two grandchildren ages 7 and 4.  They visited the Crawford Lake Conservation area near Campbellville with a reconstructed Iroquoian Village and indicated it is a very interesting place to visit.

Howard Pell provided the first of our Car Draw Happy Moments.  He spoke about all of the Rotarians he and Neil met during the day including one from Oakville who works in Hong Kong, a former Rotarian from British Columbia and a former District Governor from Windsor.  They noticed that many people come to the market with dogs and since it was a hot day Howard bought a dog bowl and filled it with water.  It didn't take long for the dogs to start coming over for a drink and of course they pulled their owners over with them which provided an opportunity for Howard and Neil to sell some tickets that they might not have otherwise be able to.
50/50 DRAW
After Neil's win last time our new pot has just begun to grow and stands at $35.  None of Jim Brown, Adrian DeCoo or Bill Proctor found the Jack this week so the pot will grow.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Our program today was the official Kick Off for our  annual Car Draw Fundraiser.  Committee co-chair Wayne Boehler started off with a bit of back ground information.

  • This is our club's biggest and most important fundraiser.
  • It has been ongoing with our club since our very early days.
  • It supports our charity of choice - KidsAbility along with some the other organizations we support through our Grants Program
  • To be successful it requires the support of all club members.

The Prizes.

Grand Prize!

       The Car! A 2018 B250 Sports Tourer.

August 21st, Envelope Stuffing at the Crowne Plaza.

September 9th, Last Mail Out Date.

September 19th-23rd, Walton Plowing Match.

October 16th, Early Bird Draw at Victoria Star Motors.

October 28th, Last Market Date.

November 17th, The Draw at the Rangers Game!

Our other co-chair, Adrian DeCoo then spoke about what is needed from each member.

Member Goals To Ensure Success!

       Individual Ticket Sales of $2000.

Sell Tickets 5 Times at the Market, Blues Fest, Ribfest, Walton Plowing Match or Swanson’s Home Hardware.

If we can all commit to these goals and support other club members in their achievement of these goals we will be sure of having a successful fundraising campaign!

A brief discussion was then held to get ideas from the members on how to achieve the goal for individual sales of $2,000 or more each.  Some of the ideas that came forward included:

  • Letters are available to send to family and friends explaining the fundraiser and members are encouraged to use these contacts.  Contact Wayne or Adrian for copies of the letters.
  • Similarly, letters are available to send to corporate contacts.  Corporate sponsors cost $300 and get the sponsor 10 books of tickets.  Many sponsors use these as rewards or thank you gifts for their employers.  To make things as easy as possible for the sponsor offer to filled in all for the ticket stubs for them (less the name of the person to whom the ticket is to be given).  Offer to deliver the tickets to their office rather than send them in the mail.
  • When selling at the market or other similar venues be sure to engage the people that come by, don't just wait for them to come to you.  Emphasize that it is a fundraiser for KidsAbility.

Committee member Howard Pell reminded folks of the many opportunities to sell tickets and to sign up on sheets that will be available each week at our regular meetings or to do so on line.  he will be sending out the link again within the next few days.

Sandra has now officially retired!   On behalf of our club she was presented with a beautiful flower arrangement and dinner gift certificate for her and Jim to enjoy!   Your board is in the process of investigating the best way to replace the MANY things Sandra has done for us, often without most of even knowing!!  Sandra will be formally recognized at one of our upcoming events.

Please continue to email any information or inquiries, including make-up requests to RotKit@sentex.net as it is now monitored by Dave Chatson and John Webster
