Citizens' Climate Lobby
Dec 04, 2019
Citizens' Climate Lobby is a grassroots organization founded in 2007 with over 400 chapters in the United States including seven in Utah. CCL is non-partisan, and works with members of Congress across the political spectrum to find common ground on climate change solutions. This talk will focus on the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which is a bill in Congress that would utilize a market-based approach to reduce carbon emissions by at least 40 percent over 12 years while providing for economic growth. Tom Moyer is a mechanical engineer who works on military explosive ordinance disposal robots. He is the state coordinator for the Utah chapters of the Citizens' Climate Lobby and was closely involved with lobbying for HCR007, the Economic and Environmental Stewardship Resolution. Lauren Barros owns LRBFamilyLaw, specializing in divorce, surrogacy, adoption, LGBTQ law, and complicated family law issues. She sits on the Third District Court Judicial Nominating Commission, and has received the Utah State Bar "Distinguished Family Law Practitioner" award. She is the Co-Leader of the Wasatch Back chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Tom and Lauren live in the net-zero house they built in Park City. |

Project Amigo
Feb 05, 2020
Tatiana Salvador Lopez is from a small agricultural village in Mexico. She is one of nine children. Her parents have only a basic level of education, and have worked low-paying, manual labor jobs to support their family. Their house is small and their living conditions are 'basic'. In November, 20129, Tatiana graduated from the University of Colima, with a degree in architecture. From 7th grade through university, her education was supported by a scholarship from Project Amigo, a non-profit organization that was started by California Rotarians 30 years ago.
Nicole met Tatiana in 2016, during her first service trip with Project Amigo. Over the years, and many visits, they have formed a special friendship and bond, and Jed & Nicole are thrilled to host Tatiana for a 5-week visit. Nicole & Tatiana so are excited to share with you about the work that Project Amigo does and the impact that education can have in breaking the cycle of poverty, one student and family at a time. Due to an inexplicable stroke of luck (read; miracle), Tatiana was granted a 10-year US tourist visa, so this is a rare and valuable opportunity to hear from an amazing young woman, whose life has been massively impacted by the generosity and work of people living the tenet of 'Service Above Self".
