ClubRunner
    Farewell to Michelle Watler

As part of our club interview series, we take time to say goodbye and good luck to dear friends who are no longer with the club.

Why did you join the club
I joined the club because I wanted to get involved with the community. Growing up being in Scouts I had always been involved with the community working with youth so, it seemed natural to be joining Rotary and being a part of the youth and literacy committees.

Do you have a favorite memory at the club
My favorite memories have all been with Youth and Literacy.  In terms of Youth, I had a lot of joy working with the Georgetown Primary students in helping them plan community events.  They were very inspiring in their own right how they brainstormed ways to actively be involved in making a difference. Jerrell's enthusiasm and sunshine attitude was always something I looked forward to as well whether it was at meetings or events.
In terms of Literacy, we had such a great team! Hendrik and Su's passion really made an impact in organizing awesome events so that the youth would have the best possible experience.  You can tell how successful we've been as year after year participation grows.
Other fond memories involve interacting with Rotaract during fellowship at Christine's house.  Dice games night and etiquette 'training' were fun but that's really just naming a few.

Do you have advice for the new board
None I can think of at this moment, everything seems super.  However, maybe one note that rather than trying to get membership up for numbers purposes, focus on recruiting members who will spend the time and effort to make a difference in the community.  I understand that it is a 'networking' type of club but there really should be a focus on more community involvement.  Take some notes and enthusiasm from the Rotaractors ;-)

Any other comments
I'm really sad to be taking leave from the club but feel that I cannot commit the time and effort that I would expect of myself as a full fledged member.  Upon returning to participate in the community again, I hope to see everyone's cheery smiling faces once again.

   Youth Committee

The Youth Committee met August 23rd. Director Jerrell and four members discussed the focus of the year, which will be anti bullying and substance abuse.

Mrs. Chow at Georgetown Primary confirmed that the kids are keen to get started with Early Act, which will have its first meeting September 21st at noon in her classroom.

             Girls Night Out
        contributor: Jackie Golding-McDonald

Our first Girls’ Night in with the beautiful
young ladies at the Frances Bodden Girls home was hittttt. The girls were very
receptive and engaging about our Topic of “Attire and Speech”. Rotarians and
Rotaractors in attendance was dressed for various occasions such as, interview,
work, church, cocktail, brunch, causal and beach wear. The ladies were
encouraged, to know what fits their bodies and the type of occasion they will
be attending. We also touched briefly on both the verbal and non-verbal aspects
of communication. Of course, we touched on social media  since it is a crucial part of what we communicate about ourselves and the fact that if you don’t want your mom or Grandma to see that picture it really should not be out there on the internet.

Both the staff and girls were thankful and we wrapped up the evening with some desserts and laughs.
