As clubs in the eastern region of the district continue to recover from the hurricanes of 2017, they are also cutting down on the pollution on beaches and waters.
The St. Thomas II club designed a project to assist US Virgin Islanders with operative cisterns on St. Thomas and St. John to check the quality of the water they were consuming for cooking, drinking and for personal hygiene. The clubs provided information to ensure the community had the tools to maintain a clean, functioning cistern system.
In addition to ensuring the country has clean potable water, the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten, with a District 7020 Recovery Grant matched by funding from The Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund totalling $40,000, are cleaning their beaches with a special beach cleaning machine to avoid pollution.

High School Scrabble Scrum Volunteers
The High School Scrabble Scrum is scheduled for Wednesday 28 November, 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm at the ARC in Camana Bay.
The Literacy Committee is appealing for volunteers for scoring and general duties to make this event a success. Training on the scoring will be provided on Monday 26 November, 5:30 pm at the George Town Yacht Club.

Directors Report for May
Literacy
Major projects are now being wrapped up for the year. the Buy a Kid a Book endeavour combined with other donations resulted in 2300 books donated for the classroom for Sir John A Cumber Primary School. Our club is working with LIFE to ensure students have a sack of books at their desks to read when they have spare time. Six hundred students will benefit.
HAST (Higher Achievement ScholarshipTrust) is another organisation that our club supports with a $1500 donation to help their eleven week program for students who are coached for their final exams.
Youth
Junior Achievement will celebrate their year end with a banquet May 26th. Three tickets are available from David Reid. David hopes to recruit volunteers for next year's projects.
After a successful year, Early Act students are looking forward to their year end party. Club members are invited.
Fundraising
To date we have raised close to $58,000 from our car raffle. Thanks go out to Claude Myles whose girls helped us with $18,000 in ticket sales.
Communication
District 7020 is creating a Club Website and Facebook Directory to post in the District's Club Runner website. its goal is to make it easier for fellow Rotarians and visitors to find us and learn about the great work across the District.
Rain
Both your trusty editors, Faye and Andrea were caught off island this weekend, stuck for an extra day due to the closure of the airport. No hard copy tomorrow!
