It was sheer joy for me to be at Prospect Primary School this morning for whole-school assembly and devotion. I presented certificates to the 25 children who submitted essays for the Butterfly Storybook Competition.
One of the 10 winners in the Rotary E-Club of of the Caribbean, 7020 competition was Diamond White of Prospect Primary. He wrote a story entitled "The Rescue" about a baby stingray whose parents had been taken away from Stingray City by thieves. Amazingly, the baby stingray could speak and be understood by humans; he persuaded them to pursue the thieves, rescue the parents and guide them back to Stingray City, happily reunited.
Diamond also received a winner's certificate and a CI$40 gift certificate from the Rotary E-Club. His proud parents were there to congratulate him. They are seen with him in the attached photograph as he displays his certificates.
In all, 103 essays were submitted for the competition and throughout the month of March, Rotary Sunrise's Literacy Committee made smiliar presentations to other schools as well. See photos below:
This presentation was made to Alliyah N. Powell during a whole-school assembly. She was the sole entrant from that school and received a certificate of participation from the Rotary E-Club of the Caribbean, 7020. Alliyah is also the school's Head Girl this year.
I took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of reading and writing well and encouraged the children to submit their essays next year.
The Principal, Marcia Rennie, praised Rotary Sunrise for our efforts in promoting literacy.

There was a bit of magic in the classroom this afternoon, positive teachers and very enthusiastic kids. I think the magic even made it into the photo….
One of the kids asked whether we will do the competition again, so provided the e-Club continues it, you have my commitment for a repeat next Rotary year.
Presentations will also be made after the Easter holidays to the following schools: Cayman Prep, St. Ignatius, Truth for Youth and Red Bay Primary.
