It was a big day for the EarlyAct club of George Town Primary School on Monday, October 20 as the candidates running for the executive positions presented their speeches to the other club members present. Hoping to win over the members' votes there were lots of promises of pool parties and hang outs at Camana Bay. But the overall messages were that they wanted to do good in their community, show respect to their elders and give back wherever they can. Even though some were very shy and nervous to give their speech they partnered with their fellow members to read each others' speeches to the group. The excitement was heightened by the presence of several Rotary and Rotaract members who came out to support the young club and welcome the EarlyAct President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Present at the meeting from Rotaract GC was President Stephanie and Director Julissa and from Rotary Sunrise was President Kim, President Elect Christine, Youth Chair Ivana, Communications Chair Martha and Rotarian Geoff.
Rotary Sunrise is the sponsoring Rotary club for the GTPS EarlyAct club but they are supported by all the Rotary and Rotaract clubs on island. We encourage members to come out and support this young club at their meetings each month on the first and third Monday. Keep an eye out for some joint community events being planned soon as well as a special visit from the new EarlyAct board coming to a Sunrise meeting in the next few weeks.
NCVO Reaches Highest Total Ever
Submitted by Communications
The NCVO's 35th Telethon took place this past Saturday, October 25 with a lofty goal to raise CI$140,000. As they hit the half way mark the end goal still seemed so out of reach. By the end of the evening the total recorded was CI$138,000 just 2000 shy of their goal. The organizers were thrilled with the total raised and Rotary Sunrise along with the other Rotaract Clubs and Rotary Central contributed to that total. VP Deirdre and Rotarian Renzo from Rotary Sunrise were on stage live at the telethon to present the cheque for CI$2,000 raised from community collections and matching funds from the club. Also present at the telethon to present their contributions was Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman and Rotaract Blue representing both Rotary Central and Rotaract Blue.
Everyone who participated in the collections, donated to NCVO and came out to support the telethon are to be applauded for their time and contribution. These funds will go to support the children's charities organized by the NCVO. For more information visit www.ncvo.org.ky
END POLIO NOW- Happy Hour Success!
Submitted by Communications
Cayman Cabana was taken over by a sea of red on Friday, October 24 to support World Polio Day and the efforts of our Rotaract clubs to raise fund to End Polio. Rotarians, friends and people from the general public braved the weather and withstood a few drops of rain all for a great cause. Proceeds from the event are estimated at about $1,000 and we all know with the matching funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation of 2 to 1 that means an estimated total of $3,000 will go toward the fight to end polio.
A great big round of applause is to be given to the Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman and the Rotaract Blue club for their efforts in organizing a wonderful event. Here are just a few photos taken from the evening but lots more can be found on the Facebook pages of all the Rotary and Rotaract clubs.

Individual Fundraising Pot Grows
Submitted by Rotarian John Lee, Individual Fundraising Chair
The first individual fundraising function happened this last weekend at Treasurer John’s home. Eight people shared a very enjoyable meal and raised $675 for Rotary Sunrise. The individual fundraising pot now has around $1,000 and should grow throughout the year. The closing date for indicating that you will commit to raising $1,500 for your individual target is 31st October. Please let John know at drjohnlee@mac.com if you want to join the other seven Sunrisers who have done the same, and advise him what your plans for fundraising are.
Strategic Planning Committee - Meeting #4
Submitted by Communications
Did you know Rotary Sunrise is currently planning the clubs strategic priorities and goals for the next 3-5 years? Did you know all members of the club are welcome to join in the discussion and help plan the direction of the club for the next few years? The committee has had 3 very productive and engaging discussions but we are not there finished yet. If you would like to be a part of this group then mark your calendar for Saturday, November 1 at 3pm. The group will meet for an hour and a half at the boardroom of AtWater Consulting in the Marquee Plaza on West Bay road. We would like to hear your input and help us pave the way for the future of the Sunrise Club.
Movember is Coming
Submitted by Communications
The month of November is typically referred to as Movember as an annual event involving the growing of moustaches, beards, you name it... in an effort to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and other male cancers. Last year there were many of our male members who were sporting more facial hair than normal. Who knows there may even be some Individual Fundraising efforts surface from who in the club will grow the longest moustache by the end of November. Anyone interested in some side bets?
