District 7020 Conference at Atlantis Bahamas
Submitted by Communications

We had ten members of our club attend the District 7020 Rotary Conference in Nassau, Bahamas this past week, and by all reports, a fine time was had by all. The photos tell the tale(s). You can also follow the action through the District’s Facebook pages:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/57738835633/
https://www.facebook.com/Rotary-7020-2015-16-282452865211707/

Many speeches were given, among them at the Grand Opening, our Rotary International President, K.R. “Ravi” Ravindran as well as the Prime Minister of the Bahamas the Rt. Hon Perry Christie P.C. M.P., and District 7020 Governor Felix N. Stubbs.

Our Sunrise Club won the District Governor Award for Excellence, Silver level, and Club of the Month, Silver level.

For the first time in our District, the Conference committee integrated “IT Smart” Conference which worked very well.

 Step One
Click the link below and watch this Promotion Video. Make sure not to get lost in Awe and forget to come back here for step 2.
 Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEeuJQfwvFg
 Step Two
Visit the District Website and download the Flyer and Registration Form. Read all the information about registering. MAKE SURE TO COME ON BACK for Step Three!
 Link: http://7020.org/conference-2017.html
 Step Three
This step involves you recognizing the inevitable - That there is no way you want to miss this conference, and you should probably register as soon as possible to secure your cabin! It is also the stage where you realize that this is a great value-for-money Conference to attend, as prices include your room, all food, taxes and fees, and Conference Registration. Only a $200 deposit is required right now to secure your ROOM. (not per person). Several months to pay the balance! (Prices on Flyer are per person based on double occupancy. Rate sheet has more detailed pricing).
 Step Four
This stage is where you think about procrastinating. This is why you probably missed Bahamas or ended up paying last minute prices! Then you remember that action is the key to success and you fill out the Registration form and email to our travel agent partner STEVE (His information is on the Flyer and Registration Form). These forms must be sent to STEVE for processing.

Mindfulness by Rotarian Wendy Koll

Last week we were kindly re-minded by Rotarian Wendy Koll, who gave us a short demo about what it is to bring our attention, our mind, to the present moment.
Wendy describes Mindfulness as follows:
Mindfulness is bringing awareness into the present moment intentionally, without judgement. It brings a healthy balance into daily life. It is a simple practice using breathing techniques to manage the stress and challenges of everyday life.
Corporate or personal sessions are available. Contact Rotarian Wendy for more info.

Skateboard Park Donation
President Christine presents cheque to Michael Myles

Sunrise Rotary recently donated $2500 CI to the black Pearl Skateboard Park to be utilised to purchase paint and other resources to enhance the youth activities for the children who utilise the Skate Park.
Michael Myles, Chairperson for the Park had this to say in his thank you letter to us:
“In the past two years, the Black Pearl Skateboard Park has provided structured activities for over 1900 people, the majority of them local youth. The park has increased its monthly users from approximately 60 youth to over 300 young people who are involved with the sport of basketball, chess, skateboarding, bmx riding and scootering.
The Association set a goal to transition the Black Pearl Skate Park into a Youth Community Center. The Youth Community Center will cater to all youth activities including churches and non-profits. We believe that all youth programmes share the same mission of serving our youth and their families. We further have many synergies and struggle with the same shortages of resources.
With the increase in crime among our young people, the park can serve as a deterrent and healthy distraction for our children. With this in mind, additional activities at the park provide many opportunities for all youth and their families.
We look forward to your continued partnership.”

Mothers Thank Fathers For Their Day
As a mother, I would like to speak for all our Rotary Mothers and say "Thanks!" to those fathers out there who did a fine job of making our day special.
We love you and appreciate you and just have this teeny bit of warning/advice for you....
