Literacy Is For Everyone (LIFE) has once again started its reading program in our public schools. They hope to encourage adults to sign up to read with students for a half hour each week.

 

If you have the time, this is a rewarding volunteer opportunity. The following is a list of reading times.

East End Primary School - Friday 2:05-2:35pm (can extend to 3pm)
Edna Moyle Primary School (North Side) - Monday 1:00-1:30pm or Tuesday 11-11:30
Bodden Town Primary School - Wednesday 8:00-8:30am
Savannah Primary School - Friday 8:00-8:30am
Prospect Primary School - Thursday 11:30-12:00pm
Red Bay Primary School - Wednesday 1:15-1:45pm
George Town Primary School - Tuesday 1:15-1:45pm
Sir John A. Cumber Primary School (West Bay) - Monday 12:30-1:00pm
John Gray High School (George Town) - Friday 8:00-8:30am
Clifton Hunter High School (North Side) - Thursday 7:50-8:20am

Meanwhile, EarlyAct starts again this Friday Sept 30th at Georgetown Primary School, Noon to 12:45. Please join Director Jerrell for their 2016 launch. 

 

This year our club will once again donate to stock our Public School Libraries. Their committee will meet to decide how to distribute the $10,000 funding allotted from their budget for this.

 

Both our annual Butterfly Storybook competition and Inter-school Debates will be shared with Rotary Central this year. Future dates to be determined.

The World's Greatest Happy Hour: End Polio will soon be upon us. We would like to extend a warm invitation to yourself and your Phenomenal Club Members, Perspectives and guests!!

Tuesday evening is once again our monthly mentorship meeting where our Rotary Club mentors Rotaractors. PP Christine hosts at her home: 99 Nelson Quay. 

The November Fellowship and Mentoring evening is all about insurance. Rotarian Nigel Twohey the Deputy Managing Director of AON is the guest speaker. Rotarian Nigel is an expert on the insurance industry and will be able to explain all of the different types of insurance and explain insurance terminology to help you better understand your insurance policies. As usual there will be food and drink and lots of opportunity for fellowship between Sunrise and our Rotaract Club members.

 

 

From Frank Balderamos A 17 year old boy is coming to Cayman from Haiti for heart surgery and needs clothes.  We do not have his size, height, weight etc. but assume that anything will do. If you have any clothes to donate please contact Angela Mele directly at angela.mele@riskpass.com.   From Barbara Oosterwyk On Friday 9 December St. Ignatius school is having a Civy day to support Sarah Harrison, who is in year 10 and is currently fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was at Baptist hospital when I was up in Miami and I visited with her a few times. She is a great kid I have known for some time through swimming and school.   ITA will purchase one T Shirt for each of you. If you want to purchase any additional you can do so, just let Barbara Oosterwyk know. The cost is $15 per T Shirt. Friday Fellowship at Brooklyn Pizza    Happy Hour at Brooklyn's was a fine Friday affair with many in our club turning out to celebrate not only the end of the week, but the continuing fellowship with Rotary friends.
