This month, we celebrate the Rotary Foundation. The Foundation is the engine that manages the money we give to Rotary and helps to fund many of the projects that we do across our District and the world. Over the last few years, our District has benefitted tremendously from the Foundation as we have received grant funding of five dollars for every dollar we have contributed. That alone should be motivation for us to dig even deeper into our pockets and support the work of Rotary. There is so much work that we do and still lots more to be done.

There is good reason to make The Rotary Foundation, our "Charity of Choice". The Rotary Foundation was started back in 1917 with less than $27.00 and today the fund has grown to over a billion dollars. The Foundation boasts great stewardship, accountability and transparency and so our contributions are maximized. If you are not yet a supporter of the Rotary Foundation, I urge you consider making a contribution. Your investment would help to make our communities better places to live and you would have made a step from Success to Significance as you demonstrate what it means to Be a Gift to the World.

Sponsored by Silver Wheaton, Pedal 2 the Point is a fun, 75 kilometer bike ride that stretches for the entire length of Grand Cayman, starting from the car park adjacent to the Turtle Farm and finishing at Rum Point. (Cutoff time: 5 hours)
Funds raised this year will be split equally between the Guatemala Literacy Project and LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone). Prizes for the first male, first female and first relay team to reach Rum Point, plus a special prize draw for any person who raises over $100 in sponsorship.
A celebratory party at Rum Point will follow the event, and water taxis will take riders to the Safehaven dock. All Finishers will receive a medal, goodie bag, breakfast buffet, $2 Caybrews and free entry for door prizes.
A YouTube video link is now available to watch the final round of the Fred Speirs Memorial 24th Annual Inter-school Debate Competition. Members of the Rotary Sunrise Literacy Committee were among the many volunteers who helped make the event a success. The final debate was held July 1, 2015 at the Law Courts Building.
The moot was: “The Cayman Islands should set a date for independence from the UK, to be no later than the year 2025.” Debating in favor of the moot was St. Ignatius High School while the team from Layman Scott High School on Cayman Brac debated in opposition. The distinguished panel of judges included Dr. Linford Pierson, Mr. Roy Bodden, abd Ms. Allyson Speirs.

If members are unable to make a regular weekly meeting or Rotary event, make-ups can be done online. The e-Club website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the site and answer some questions to get the make up certificate.
Traveling: If you are going to be traveling for an extended period of time (more than two weeks), be sure to let the Secretary know and remember to submit any make-ups you do in a timely manner.
