Dr Uli gave a 5 minute talk about his return medical visit to Honduras during the Christmas holidays
Deirdre talked about the Heart Health Fair and a sign up was circulated
Hendrik talked about the Polio Bed Race and a sign up was circulated
Christine talked about the Casino night date of May 2 having a conflict with Batabano so the date will need to change (tba at this point)
Tony announced no car raffle tickets yet but circulated a proof and promises to have them by next week
Kim presented 3 Hearts of Rotary pins to Rotarians Dr. Uli, Jerrell and Pat Kreitlow
Ron introduced our special guest PP Lynn Young from the Rotary Club of Belize to talk briefly about the CALS Belize project Sunrise has partnered with. Six laptops were then handed over to PP Lynn to take with him to Belize
Students from the JA program were on-hand selling their product
PDG Bob gave a brief speech about this Saturday, March 8 signifying 50 years since bloody Sunday in Selma AL where he was there on the bridge 50 years ago.
Niko won the raffle prize but only after he was the last minute raffle ticket buyer… Joke was on him as the prize was an IOU for a Books and Books gift certificate.

As you are aware, March 8 - 14, 2015 is WORLD ROTARACT WEEK ! With March 13th being celebrated as World Rotaract Day !!! Let us make the upcoming week a truly memorable one for 2015! Here are some ideas on how we can make this week a celebration of our awesome Rotaract movement in District 7020!
Continue to build on those relationships with our Rotaractors
Invite our Rotaractors to our meeting or have a Rotaractor be a guest speaker this week
Do a joint project or assist/participate with a fundraiser
Check out & "like" your Rotaract District 7020 Facebook page
Visit your Rotaract club meeting, remind them that as Rotarians we are here to support
Consider sponsoring a Rotaractor (or two) for the Rotaract District Conference in St Maarten, May 27-31, 2015. Make that presentation at your club meeting this week
Have a Rotaract Club take over and/or chair your meeting this week!
Our Rotaract movement is strong, vibrant, energetic, fun, organized and full of ideas in giving back through service. So continue to reach out to our Rotaractors and remind them that we are all a part of the family of Rotary, especially during World Rotaract Week.

100Women in Hedge Funds Supports LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone)

100 Women in Hedge Funds (100WHF) Cayman is pleased to support LIFE (Literacy is For Everyone), a local charity which focuses its efforts on improving literacy in the Cayman Islands, as its 2015 Beneficiary. LIFE is an independent charitable organization found in 2012 by a group of Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise (that's us!). LIFE's mission is to significantly increase literacy levels across the Cayman Islands. LIFE currently runs several literacy intervention programs in the government primary and secondary schools, targeted at students who are falling behind with their literacy skills. They also run computer assisted literacy programme aimed at supporting older students and adults.
100WHF (Cayman) aligns its yearly objectives to a global theme which rotates on an annual basis to make the greatest impact. For 2015, 100WHF will be "Celebrating Education" not only across its membership, but across the community as a whole.
100WHF (Cayman) is already in high gear for the year, building on its past successes with even more spectacular events in the works. To coincide with Global Literacy Month, 100WHF (Cayman) will welcome Joanna Barsh, Director Emeritus at McKinsey & Co. and author of Centered Leadership (published in 2014 by Crown Business) to the Marriott Resort, Grand Cayman on Thursday 12th March at 12:30pm for a luncheon and Centered Leadership Workshop. The ticket price is US$125 and includes a copy of Centered Leadership, a three course networking lunch, followed by the workshop.
There will also be a book signing and discussion with Joanna Barsh on Centered Leadership at Books & Books Camana Bay, on Thursday evening at 6pm. All are welcome to join us.
100WHF (Cayman) then sails into the 2nd Annual Barefoot Beach Gala on Saturday 14 March 2015, which will be held at Tiki Beach Grand Cayman. The inaugural Barefoot Beach Gala was a highly successful and enjoyable evening with over 235 guests in attendance. Tickets are now on sale for US$185 which includes a complementary cocktail hour, live band, dinner and dancing barefoot and under the stars.
All proceeds go directly to benefit our 2015 beneficiary LIFE (Literacy is for Everyone).
Let me emphasize that these events are not for women only. Anyone is welcome to join us for the luncheon, and of course the gala is a party. Last year’s fundraising gala was our inaugural event and was a smash hit, and we’re hoping that it’s remembered and we can continue the legacy. In addition - this fundraiser is perfect timing to fit in with Rotary's focus for March - Literacy! No better way to celebrate, and we hope to see you on the 14th!

Rotary Water Project in Zambia

Last September I went to a conference at Victoria Falls in Zambia. One of the excursions was a quad bike safari out into the back country. The guide showed us a recently installed fresh water well, providing clean, healthy water for local communities. I asked to be put in touch with the people who organised it, as I saw an opportunity for the Club to get involved. I communicated with the UK based charity called The Butterfly Tree, which raises funds for these projects in rural Zambia, including safe water, health, education, malaria prevention and feeding programs. I put a proposition to the International Committee for a contribution to a water well, and in the meantime I spoke with the company which invited me to Victoria Falls and asked if they would be willing to contribute. They said they would match whatever we donated. The Club donated US $1,000, which was matched. These funds will go towards a well for one of the local communities currently lacking a safe source of water.

Our Rotary District Conference is now only weeks away. Please be reminded that you have until the end of March 2015 to take advantage of the reduced registration fee of US$200. From 1 April 2015, the full registration fee of US$270 will apply.

Rotary E-Club of the Caribbean 7020: Online meetings any time. Visit the new e-club platform at http://e7020clubhouse.ning.com If members are unable to make a regular weekly meeting or Rotary event, make-ups can be done online. The e-Club website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the site and answer some questions to get the make up certificate.
Travelling: If you are going to be travelling for an extended period of time - more than two weeks be sure to let the Secretary know and remember to submit any make-ups you do in a timely manner.
