Membership Month
August is Membership Month which means it is time to celebrate our club, our members, and the good we do in our community and around the world.
Rotary members have pushed polio to the brink of eradication, delivered clean water to those in need, improved their local communities, provided scholarships to the next generation of peacemakers, and continued to do good in the world. Director Matthew Seales says it all on his fine tee:

Stay Focused Comes
To Sunrise
Our speakers last week were Ryan Chalmers and Roger Muller from Stay Focused who captured our attention with their words and work. Each year they organise the Push Across Cayman race which will be held next year, February 23 - 25.
The vision for Stay-Focused is to create a unique leadership development organization for teens with disabilities that enhances their quality of life and provides the opportunity for continued growth. SCUBA diving offers teens and young adults with disabilities an unparalleled opportunity to experience freedom from their disability, gain confidence, and realize their ability to set higher goals.
Roger started Stay-Focused in 2003, has been running programs in Cayman for 14 years, and (to date) Stay-Focused has certified 97 teens with disabilities. In the week leading up to the event, Ryan Chalmers and other Stay-Focused alumni will visit schools in Cayman to build awareness for the potential of all persons with disabilities.
Roger’s brother Bobby, a Marine Corps combat veteran of Vietnam, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 as co-Founder of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, inspired Roger to start Stay-Focused, and Ryan Chalmers motivates him to keep pushing forward …
Ryan became certified as a DiveMaster, and launched a signature program for Stay-Focused, Push Across Cayman, pushing his racing chair 55-miles around the island. In the spring of 2013, Ryan pushed his racing chair from Los Angeles to New York City – 3, 321 miles in 71 days.
Ryan is well-known in Cayman and the US, as an advocate for persons with disabilities. Prior to pushing across Cayman each year, Ryan talks to hundreds of students in Cayman about his life, the choices he has made, and the “why” behind his commitment to helping others.
Audi Winners Come to Collect
Su Tummala, the happy winner of the 2017 Audi TT, collected her prize at Arch Automotive last week, along with 2nd, and 3rd place winners
Ranfor Welcome, winner of the Delta flights, and Kara Phillips, winner of $1000 in gas from Walker's Road Rubis. Absent in the photo is 4th place winner Ray Northover.
Miss Tummala's mother, a Rotarian from Hydrabad,India, was with her when Su purchased her lucky ticket.
Skate Park Event a Hit
Rotary donated $3,000 toward making the big opening at Savannah's Skate Park last week a success. Sunrise Rotarians were on hand to serve up burgers, beverages and cake to the kids and their families who came to enjoy the day on Saturday June 24th. Approximately 180 children attended the event. Rotary Sunrise gave away three membership prizes and 5 scooter prizes.
