Rotary Foundation Month

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary International, The Foundation taps into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into initiatives like eradicating polio and promoting peace. Foundation grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact.

Rotary Tackles Water and Beach Pollution

As clubs in the eastern region of the district continue to recover from the hurricanes of 2017, they are also cutting down on the pollution on beaches and waters.

The St. Thomas II club designed a project to assist US Virgin Islanders with operative cisterns on St. Thomas and St. John to check the quality of the water they were consuming for cooking, drinking and for personal hygiene. The clubs provided information to ensure the community had the tools to maintain a clean, functioning cistern system.

In addition to ensuring the country has clean potable water, the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten, with a District 7020 Recovery Grant matched by funding from The Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund totalling $40,000, are cleaning their beaches with a special beach cleaning machine to avoid pollution.

     Rotary Fellowship Month

Rotary Fellowships Month - June is designated as “Rotary Fellowships Month” by the RI Board to recognize the importance of international fellowship and good will among Rotarians with similar recreational interests, vocations, and health and medical issue-oriented interests, to promote increased participation in fellowships and increase understanding of this program. The RI Board encourages fellowships groups to highlight activities through projects, activities, and events in celebration of “Rotary Fellowships Month” in June.

“Fellowship is wonderful; it illuminates life’s pathway, spreads good cheer, and is worth high price.”
Rotary Founder, Paul Harris

Rotary Fellowships are international, independently organized groups of Rotarians, Rotarian spouses, and Rotaractors who share a common vocation or recreational interest. Rotary Fellowships give their members the opportunity to have fun, make new friends around the world, and enhance their experience in Rotary.

 James Mellon To Speak on
Beneficial Ownership Regime

James Melen will be guest speaker next Wednesday and will speak about Beneficial Ownership Regime.

James is a partner in the Global Investment Funds Group at Walkers, specialising in the formation and life-cycle of investment and private equity funds. He is also a highly experienced corporate and transactional lawyer, having specialised in mergers, acquisitions, disposals, demergers, restructurings and private equity deals for over 18 years.

The Beneficial Ownership regime obligates Cayman Islands exempted companies and limited liability companies to create Registers of Beneficial Ownership, identifying those 'warm bodies' who have ownership interests above a certain threshold, whether directly or indirectly. There are a number of significant and broadly drafted exemptions from this regime that ought to take a substantial number of entities 'out of scope'.
