Rotary Sunrise has signed on as the generous sponsor of Feed Our Future's 2017 Summer Food programme - 'A Recipe for Summer' - donating $15,000.
Feed Our Future's Summer Food Programme - ‘A Recipe for Summer’ - was established in 2014 with an aim to bridge the gap that summer presents for those children who rely on a subsidised meal at school. 'A Recipe for Summer' was also designed to expose families to healthier food options and to equip them to cook, healthier foods for their children. The programme fosters good habits related to the planning of meals and stretching the food available to them. This programme reaches up to 100 children each summer.
It is only possible through generous community partners like Rotary Sunrise that the impact of Feed Our Future can be felt.
Club Gives
To Drug Court
Rotary Sunrise once again made a contribution to the Drug Rehabilitation Court (DRC) program. Our club has provided $2,500 worth of movie tickets, Foster's gift cards, and Book Nook/Books and Books gift certificates, which will be provided as incentives to clients and graduates of the DRC program as long as they remain and are participating in the programme.
The DRC is a voluntary programme for offenders charged with drug and drug-related offences . An alternative to the regular criminal adjudication, the DRC Team consists of a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, probation officer, social worker, and treatment provider who collaborate and design appropriate treatment, counseling, as well as rewards and sanctions to reduce the offender’s dependency on illegal drugs.
Paul Harris Awarded
The Rotary Foundation presented the Paul Harris Fellow to IPP Christine last week in recognition and appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. Rotarian Christine keeps company with a remarkable group of persons throughout the world and in our own club, all recognized for their devotion to the ideal of good will, peace and understanding.
It is because of gifts like hers that the Foundation is able to fund a number of programs that achieve beneficial changes in our world such as the following:
Improved living conditions
Increased food production
Better education
Wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for the sick and disabled
New channels to the flow of international understanding
Brighter hopes for peace.
Christel Sanchez and Allison Anglin updated us last week about what UCCI has achieved and the new horizons the college has in its sight.

International
Our club is awaiting word from Rotary International for approval of matching grants with our donation of $4000 that pairs with the Philippine District for the Nanay Care Centre.

$2,000 to Malawi for Children's Rehabilitation Centre
$1000 to South Africa for Baby HOme
$600 to Guaruma for ongoing support.
Community
We will be hosting the community in Swamp Park this month on Saturday March 25th Save the date.
Literacy
- Rotarians Pauline and Woody championed Buy a Kid a Book (no, not Feed Children Books)(though a steady diet of reading is a wonderful idea). Along with our Rotarian volunteers, we raised $3000 which will go toward class libraries in our public schools.
- We are presently considering working with Rotary Central to send students to debate camp. More information to follow in the coming weeks.

Earlyactors will help out at Swamp Park next week. They will be having a bake sale April 8th, and a car wash in May.
Drink Wine, Feel Fine
On Tuesday April 25th PP Christine hosted her monthly Mentoring group at her home. The subject was wine and the speaker was our own Martin Richter. Martin was greeted with a resounding cheer when he announced that two glasses of red wine a day will vastly improve one's sex life.
Cayman Music Trust
This week our speaker, Janine Stabler, is here at Sunrise to announce the May 2017 launch of the Cayman Arts Trust. The trust is brand new and the aim is simple - to get more young Cayman children playing and experiencing musical instruments at a young age when learning music helps to develop both brain and mind. This programme has been designed throughout with the overriding focus on community integration and development.
The Cayman Arts Trust aims to promote the highest quality music instruction and performance opportunities for Caymanian students, giving them a solid musical foundation to create a community that is rich with cultural and intellectual diversity.
