This upcoming weekend is the 6th Annual North America RYLA Conference held in Washington, DC. And Rotary Sunrise is supporting two Rotaractors, President Stephanie Rattan and Director Julissa Castillo, from Rotaract Grand Cayman to attend the 5 day conference. So what is RYLA?
RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, is an intense leadership training program that is designed to recognize, encourage, and further develop the leadership skills of 18-30 year olds who have shown a potential for rendering important service to their local communities. All Rotaractors, non-Rotaractors, RYLA alumni, former Youth Study Exchange, former Group Study Exchange alumni, former Ambassadorial Scholar alumni, former Interactors and former Peace Scholars between the ages of 18-30 can participate in this conference. The North American conference will be at the George Washington University from Saturday, August 2 through Wednesday, August 6 and is a combination of International RYLA, Rotaract Pre-Convention, USCC (United States-Canada-Caribbean Rotaract Conference) and District 7620 RYLA Program.
Participants from the following Countries and Territories will be represented at this year's conference: Algeria, Australia, Bangladesh, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Czech Republic, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Germany, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Serbia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, St. Maarten, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United States, U.S Virgin Islands and Venezuela.
Rotary Sunrise is very proud to be sponsoring these two young ladies at this year's conference. Both Stephanie and Julissa will have the opportunity to make a presentation about their RYLA experience at the September 3 club meeting.
District Conference 2015
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
As we come off of a great week of Rotary with District Governor Paul and Kay, I would now like to turn your attention to the Rotary District 7020 PETS Assembly & Conference 2015, which is scheduled from Tuesday, May 12, 2015 to Saturday, May 16, 2015 and hosted at the world famous Half Moon Bay Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
I have tried to compile all the relevant information and website addresses for you to make your decision and bookings as easy as possible.
DG Paul has asked the Cayman Clubs to take at least 4 villas at Half Moon Bay. This equates to about 25 rooms. We know the 4 Clubs will have to send their PEs and SEs for PETS, so that is 8 rooms right there! Laetitia and I have already booked our stay and I know PDG Bobby, PDG Jeremy, President Brian, PP Alan, PP Cathy, PP Sebastien, Director Trevor and Director Brad will also be attending. That makes it at least 15 rooms confirmed. 10 more to go!!!! Should we be aiming for more rooms? There are only 27 villas available so it is very important to book your hotel early as it is first come, first served!
Conference Chair Eric ‘Busha’ Clarke and I have been discussing this and he will be assigning the villas. I have asked that he place us in a central location together so we can enjoy as much joint fellowship as can be imagined. It will be an EPIC week for us all!!!
To register for the District conference, please visit www.dc2015.com.
The cost of the District 7020 Assembly & Conference is - US$170.00. There are many additional activities and events to choose from, including a fellowship Golf Tournament on Saturday. Please click on the link above to register for the Conference and choose what activities and events you would like to attend. Please be advised that the registration fee will increase to US$200 in October and to $250 in March.
As stated above, the conference hotel will be the Half Moon Resort, in Montego Bay. Conference Chair Busha has negotiated fantastic rate for us all to enjoy, US$140 per night (Double Occupancy), plus tax
You will need to enter the Rotarian group code “555104” on this page and then press update.
All you need to do then is enter your dates to check in and check out. Then enter number of adults (maximum 2) and select continue. Then enter your payment details and complete the reservation. It should take no more than 5 minutes.
For air travel, Cayman Airways has daily flights to and from Jamaica. At this time, I would recommend budgeting US$375 per person.
I will be sending around a sign-up sheet to all the Clubs, via your President. I ask that you please indicate if you will be attending the District Conference and if you have registered yet as well as booked your room. This will help me in coordinating the rooms and villas. Thank you all for your usual kind cooperation in this matter.
YIRS,
Eric Bush
Assistant Governor - District 7020
