Charter Night - A Great Evening Celebrating 13 Years
Submitted by Communications

Thanks to all Rotarians, Rotaractors, family, friends and guests who joined us in celebrating 13 years of service in the Cayman community on April 15th. Attendees were warmly greeted by Rotarian Dawn Cummings and the atmosphere inside was a buzz with chatter as guests waited for beverages at the bar.  After the meeting was called to order and formalities completed, delicious appetizers such as various sushi rolls, mini burgers, chicken skewers and vegetable tempura (among others) were passed around.

On display was a photograph taken by a student from Guaruma, Honduras which was auctioned later in the evening.  President Kim introduced the charter members and past presidents of Rotary Sunrise and gave apologies for those who were not able to attend. The first president of Rotary Sunrise and Past District Governor Alistair Patterson spoke about the importance of getting involved and being active active within the club stating that while one can be inducted into the family of Rotary, only you can make yourself a Rotarian.

As the night continued, four members of the public were awarded with Paul Harris Fellow Awards. They were nominated by club members for their 'Service Above Self' and work within the Cayman community. The awardees were, Mrs. Yvette Chow, Ms. Danielle Coleman, Mr. James Myles and Ms. Penny McDowall.

Overall it was an enjoyable night which ended with the cutting of the cake and the drawing of the raffle prize. A special thanks to Rotarians who assisted with the planning of the event and thanks to all who attended.

Charter Night is set for Wednesday, April 15th at Mizu Restaurant, Camana Bay. The event will run from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. This is an opportunity to celebrate our 13th birthday and award those in the community who engage in the same motto as Rotary  "Service Above Self".

This is the first time we are holding our Charter Night at Mizu Restaurant and we're told by the Manager, Steve Shienfield that Rotarians will not be disappointed in the selection, quality and quantity of appetizers. The appetizers will be a mixture of menu items from Mizu and Waterfront restaurants.

Cost is CI $25 which covers food and the venue.

Alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages can be ordered directly from the bar, and it will be a cash bar.

This is our 13 year anniversary and President Kim would be extremely grateful if you could attend.

Rotarians & Rotaractors Complete Roadside Clean Up For Earth Day
Submitted by Communications

Thanks to the Rotarians, their family members and Rotaractors who came out early on Saturday morning to participate in the annual roadside clean up organised by the Chamber of Commerce. The areas cleaned were the road side heading east of Hurley's Supermarket after the DMS round about. After putting on sunscreen, gloves and grabbing garbage bags, it was time to head out.

Groups of 2 or more persons worked together and decided that some would collect plastic only or glass and aluminum only to help with the recycling efforts of Rotary Sunrise.  Others picked up every thing else and found some interesting items along the route which included construction materials, old tires and household items. The garbage bags were placed along the road for collection by the Department of Environmental Health.

*Please note some Rotarians and Rotaractors got back after 8am in need of some cold water and this is when this photo was snapped. Many others were still on the road and were not available at the time of this photo.

(If you took any photos during the clean up, please send them to the editor and we will share them in the next edition of The Rotary Sun).
