Water Projects: US$2,100 now been sent toward TRF grant for the San Miguel de Allende, Mexico project ($2,000 toward the actual project and $100 as the admin fee for donating through The Rotary Foundation). Sunrise will receive recognition in the way of Paul Harris Fellowships for this donation. US$1,000 has been sent to Zambia for the Butterfly Tree well project there. US$2,000 has been sent to Safe Water International for the Cambodia latrines to be distributed when Rotarian Larry Siegel (Rotary Club of Miami Brickell) is in Cambodia after the International Convention in Korea.
Malawi Drought Relief: US$2,000 has been sent to Safe Water International toward the Malawi Drought Relief project to provide food to the neediest of communities during the anticipated severe drought this year.
Birthing Kits: US$1,000 will be sent to Midwives For Haiti to provide birthing kits being sent to needy communities in Haiti.
Ecuador Hurricane Relief: US$1,000 has been sent to the Rotary Club of Guayaquil for earthquake relief.
Kiva: There are still funds to be disbursed in the Kiva “pot” however Wendy Koll will be handling that project and she is away for a couple more weeks.
Guaruma: Jimmy Andino is away until the end of April – at that time we will be requesting a report on how the US$5,000 in District Grant funds was spent. It was agreed to carry over the US$2,800 remaining in ISC budget for Guaruma until next year. We have not requested a wish list from Guaruma this year and they have not expressed any dire needs so since funds may be short next year we thought it prudent to hold onto it. The weekend of Friday, Sept 16 – Monday, Sept 19 has been suggested to Guaruma as the preferred weekend for our Sunrise medical trip. Jimmy will get back to us once he confirms those dates with the Guaruma staff.
Guaruma Medical: Hypothetically we have covered surgeries for the 19 earmarked children – still a couple of pledged donations to trickle in. Treasurer John has wired enough money from the ISC account to cover all surgeries using a small amount from our reserved ISC budget while we await the final two pledged deposits. The initial six patients have already had their first screenings with surgeries scheduled for May 5th & 6th. The plan is to have all surgeries complete before the next Rotary medical trip so Dr. Ecke can reexamine the patients and review their progress.
