The Rotary Foundation Receives a High Score
The Rotary Foundation has received the highest possible score from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.

In the most recent ratings, released on 1 September, The Rotary Foundation earned the maximum 100 points for both financial health and accountability and transparency.

The ratings reflect how efficiently Charity Navigator believes the Foundation will use donations, how well it has sustained programs and services, and its level of commitment to good governance and openness.

In the previous rating, the Foundation had received 97 points.

 Mentorship Meeting

Tuesday evening is once again our monthly mentorship meeting where our Rotary Club mentors Rotaractors. PP Christine hosts at her home: 99 Nelson Quay.

The November Fellowship and Mentoring evening is all about insurance. Rotarian Nigel Twohey the Deputy Managing Director of AON is the guest speaker. Rotarian Nigel is an expert on the insurance industry and will be able to explain all of the different types of insurance and explain insurance terminology to help you better understand your insurance policies.

As usual there will be food and drink and lots of opportunity for fellowship between Sunrise and our Rotaract Club members.

Club Members' Requests

From Frank Balderamos
A 17 year old boy is coming to Cayman from Haiti for heart surgery and needs clothes.  We do not have his size, height, weight etc. but assume that anything will do.
If you have any clothes to donate please contact Angela Mele directly at angela.mele@riskpass.com.

From Barbara Oosterwyk
On Friday 9 December St. Ignatius school is having a Civy day to support Sarah Harrison, who is in year 10 and is currently fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was at Baptist hospital when I was up in Miami and I visited with her a few times. She is a great kid I have known for some time through swimming and school.

ITA will purchase one T Shirt for each of you. If you want to purchase any additional you can do so, just let Barbara Oosterwyk know. The cost is $15 per T Shirt.

Friday Fellowship at Brooklyn Pizza

Happy Hour at Brooklyn's was a fine Friday affair with many in our club turning out to celebrate not only the end of the week, but the continuing fellowship with Rotary friends.

September is Literacy Month!
Worldwide, 67 million children have no access to education, and more than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our Rotary International partners support educational projects that provide technology, teacher training, vocational training teams, student meal programs, and low-cost textbooks to communities. The goal of Rotary is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education and increase adult literacy.

So what are you reading? Who are you reading to?

Don't forget that you can read to students at any of our public schools here. For information contact Marilyn Connolly at marilyn.conolly@life.org.ky or see their website at www.life.org.ky.

Camana Bay has a jam-packed schedule for the month as well. They are featuring Roald Dahl Story times for your little ones throughout the month. Check their story time schedule at
http://camanabay.com/things-to-do-grand-cayman/events/ And always, always, read to your children!

Join us on Skype

Don't forget that you can join us on Skype when you are travelling. Jon salutes us this week from Idaho.

Our Speaker: A Literary Adventure

Alan Davies

On August 24th our speaker Alan Davies gave us a new way of teaching literacy to our students.

Alan Davies has pioneered the THRASS (Teaching Handwriting Reading And Spelling Skills) programme since 1989. The first charts and resources were published in England in 1992.

Mr. Davies is a Chartered Educational Psychologist and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is a former teacher, college lecturer and university teacher trainer, and has the Dyslexia Institute Diploma and the British Dyslexia Association Diploma.

THRASS UK, overseen by Alan and his wife Hilary, now publishes all previous and new titles under the ‘English Spelling Chart Resources’ umbrella. Training, mostly in countries located in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean, is provided through a one-day workshop, or a two-day THRASS Accredited Certificate workshop, held in primary and secondary schools, colleges and teacher centres.
