The Rotary Grace

O God and giver
of all good,

We thank thee for
our daily food.

May Rotary friends
and Rotary ways,

Help us to serve thee
all our days.
The 4-Way Test

Of the things we
think, say, or do:

Is it the truth?

Is it fair to all concerned?

Will it build goodwill
and better friendships?

Will it be beneficial
to all concerned?
What is the Red Badge Checklist?
Rotary Sunrise has developed a list of tasks to be completed by newly inducted members as a way to help them get to know other members in the club and become familiar with Rotary protocols. Once all 7 required tasks have been completed the member will receive the club's Blue Badge replacing the Red Badge to symbolize the completion of all tasks.
  1. Be Greeter
  2. Four Way Test
  3. Complete New Member Training Session
  4. Getting to Know You Talk
  5. Prepare bio for publication in the Sun
  6. Do a make-up at another club (locally or internationally)
  7. Update your profile on the web-site
There are also 11 optional tasks but the 7 listed above are mandatory and it is suggested to aim at completing the list within a 6 month period (but that is only a suggestion). For more information about the Red Badge Checklist or any new member information please visit our website home page under "For New Members" on the menu bar.
Save the Date - Saturday, June 28
Mark your calendars for Changeover Night when the new Rotary Sunrise board for 2014 - 2015 is officially installed. More details to come as arrangements are finalized.

Special Thank You to Rotarian David Reid and Rotarian Mark Macfee for providing printed copies of the weekly newsletter for members and guests to read at the tables.
Please feel free to take a copy with you after the meeting.

NOW IS THE TIME
to become part of the legacy.
Ordering Breakfast on Wednesday?

Due to the GT Yacht Club now open to the public for breakfast, Club Members are being asked to place their breakfast orders with the wait staff at the register by the coffee station. This will not only speed the ordering process but you will receive your meal faster. In addition, if the water jug at your table needs a refill, kindly have someone bring it to the coffee station for a top up.

The management of GTYC thanks you for your assistance

With over 200 readers weekly (Rotarians and Friends of Rotary) why not consider posting your logo and web link within our newsletter. Your sponsorship will not only help Rotary Sunrise but your business will get exposure to grow your clientelle. Contact info@rotarysunrise.ky to learn more about advertising with Rotary Sunrise.

What the Prez Sez...
Mother's Day!
Submitted by President J.D. Mosley-Matchett

Dear Sunrise Club's Mum (and Siblings),

This is a love letter. Not because the Sunrise Club needs a special day to remember all the wonderful things you've done to make us a happy, growing, and productive family of Rotarians. But because it's good to be reflective on special occasions...and this one is dedicated to you.

As our Mother club, the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman (or RCGC as the nickname goes) has not only given Rotary Sunrise the gift of life, but also enthusiastic support in all that we do.  Your maturity is a beacon that guides Sunrise and its sibling clubs along the proper path to maturity. All of the Cayman District Governors originated as members of your club, gathering a wealth of experience and wisdom that you have generously shared.

At last week's District 7020 Conference, once again you led the way with the most club members in attendance, shouldering the lion's share of the financial, protocol, volunteer and social burdens that accompanied throwing a week-long event for almost 600 family members--including many from distant countries in South America, North America and across the Caribbean. And you did it all with grace and charm and good humor.

Even your President Stephanie embodies the strength of motherhood by beginning her presidential year expecting a child of her own while simultaneously maintaining leadership of the largest club in the Cayman Islands. With amazing confidence and ability through pregnancy and beyond, without skipping a beat, her smiling kindness never wavered. Talk about "Service Above Self"!

Grand Cayman Mother Club, you are the epitome of what a Rotary club should be. Thank you for your excellence as a role model. We do love you.

Furthermore, our Sibling clubs also deserve recognition on this special day of affection and appreciation.

To our oldest sibling, the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac, we know that you've fallen on hard times recently and are only a shadow of your former self. But you are coming back with the fight and vigor I knew when I too was a proud Brac member. So I whooped and applauded louder than anyone when you won your trophy of distinction at the 2014 District 7020 Conference. Your President Dhal, with the support of your members, has worked so very hard to build you back to double digits of membership and we want you to know that the Sunrise club will always embrace you with the support and respect you deserve. Much love and congratulations!

To our other sibling, the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Central, my goodness but you have shown what grit, determination, and focus can accomplish as you scored top award after top award at the District 7020 Conference. Platinum, DOUBLE-Platinum, and (SO deservedly) "Club of the Year" for District 7020. You make us so proud by representing the very best that a Rotary Club can be. Your President Naude worked tirelessly with a smile, kind word, and hug for everyone. But he maintained strong leadership throughout the journey of this past Rotary year and the accolades showered upon you remind EVERYONE what a Rotary club can and should accomplish for the good of all the world.

What an incredible family we are. What an incredible family reunion we experienced at this year's District 7020 Conference. And what an incredible future we look forward to as the next generation of club leaders emerge from their PETS training ready to take on the challenge to "Light Up Rotary"!

Much Love and Many, Many Rotary Hugs...
--from the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise

This Week's Meeting Focus: Business Meeting

Topic: Committee Updates from Club Directors

Please join us on Wednesday, May 14 to receive updates from the committee Directors regarding completed projects and upcoming events to round out this Rotary year.

Recognition by Sunrise Peers
Submitted in part by President JD

Each year at Changeover, Rotary Sunrise has the opportunity to have club members recognized for their efforts, contributions and overall service above self. If you have not already sent in your nominations to Secretary Deirdre please do not hesitate any longer.

Nominations for a Paul Harris Fellow - consider those members among us who particularly exemplify our motto of "Service Above Self"

Nominations for Rotarian of the Year - consider which member of the club should be recognized as Rotarian of the Year. Include with your nomination a brief summary of why you feel this club member is deserving of the award.

Nominations for Rookie of the Year - Rotary Sunrise have inducted 4 new members within this Rotary year. Please consider one of these four members for this award - Rotarians Dorothy Crumbley, Victor Crumbley, Renzo Escalante and Rachael Windhaber.

Please note that the Board will further consider for Paul Harris Fellow recognition those nominated club members who do not receive one of the other two awards.

Yee-Ha! Rotary Round Up 2014
Submitted by Fundraising Director Tim Bradley, Rotary Club of Grand Cayman

As you know, it’s that time of year again and we are saddling up for our annual fundraising auction, the Rotary Round Up, which will be held on Saturday May 24th, 2014.

With the overwhelming popularity of last year’s Round Up, we will be building on the country and western theme.  This year’s event will be held on the Festival Greens at Camana Bay and will feature massive outdoor tents decorated in the Old West with hay bales, dude ranch style decorations, maybe some livestock, and of course…the infamous mechanical bull.

The evening will start off at 5 pm with cocktails and silent auction, followed by the live auction and then onto dancing, live music and bull riding.  The night will be highlighted with a bull riding contest.   Yep, you read it correctly…a bull riding contest.  The dress code will be very casual.   Western wear, jeans, boots, indian outfits, cowboy hats if you got em!

Your support is vital for the sustainability of the projects and programs that our club supports and ensures their continued success.  You can support Rotary by purchasing one of the following options for Round Up:

Individual Ticket – CID 200

Posse Package – CID 2,000
Corporate Table
Ten Tickets

Gun Slinger Package – CID 3,000
One Corporate Table w/ Ten Tickets
One Entry into Bull Riding Contest
Advertising Package:
  • Corporate logo and sponsorship recognition highlighted in auction program.
  • Sponsorship recognition during live auction.
  • Sponsorship recognition and mention of thanks on two Daybreak segments, radio advertising and in Compass advertising prior to (if committed by deadlines) and following auction.
  • Corporate logo and sponsorship recognition included in the weekly Rotary Cay both in print and E-distribution.
  • Announcement of each Corporate Sponsor at the weekly Rotary Lunch
  • Weekly recognition of thanks on Rotary Facebook Page/Twitter and Club Website
To purchase tickets or tables please contact Brian Hurley at brian.hurley@digicelgroup.com, Graham Pearson atgrahambda@gmail.com or Tim Bradley at tim@bradley.ky.
