Great Fun at the Rotaract Bid 2015
Submitted by Communications

Great fun was had at The Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman fundraising event called The Rotaract Bid 2015 which took place last Saturday evening pool side of the GT Yacht Club restaurant.

Rotarians enjoyed fellowship and food with the Rotaractors and guests in attendance. No Rotaractor went for less than $100 and the highest bid was $350! (but I won't say who that was or who made that bid, you had to have been there!)
There were 11 Rotaractors up for grabs and the funds raised will be used towards community service projects and professional development endeavors.

The activity was chosen by the Rotarian pulling an envelope and enclosed was a gift certificate for an activity or restaurant voucher that they could share. This one-on-one gives Rotaractors and Rotarians a chance to get to know each other better. The photos below are just 2 of the Rotarians with their winning Rotaractor!

This Week's Guest Speaker - Ms. Jacqueline Carpenter
Submitted by Secretary Gina McBryan

Speaker: Ms. Jacqueline Carpenter
Topic: The Diplomatic Advocate: Promoting Human Rights in the Post-Soviet Region

Jacqueline Carpenter has had a lifelong fascination with the Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union. She first visited Russia in 1995 as an English teacher and returned a decade later as a volunteer in orphanages in Yaroslavl.  After completing her Master of International Affairs degree at Columbia University in 2008, Ms. Carpenter began working with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in its field presence in Baku, Azerbaijan and then Chisinau, Moldova.  In both countries she advised the mission on sensitive human rights and democratization issues, and managed diverse development projects. In 2014 she also was deployed to Ukraine twice as an observer. Her fieldwork experience has provided her with a unique perspective on the forces at play in these countries, the contradictions inherent in development work, and the changing dynamics between Europe and Russia.

Committee Choice - Where do you want to serve?
Submitted by Communications

It's that time of year again – when you are asked to stop for a moment and reconsider your commitment to Rotary. The time when you are asked to decide if you want to continue serving your Club and community through the work of the committee(s) you currently serve on or if you want to try something new and have a different experience.

In preparation for the new Rotary year I am inviting you to select the committee or committees you would like to serve on during 2015/16. We will make every effort to place you on the committee of your first choice but in order to balance the committees and their work loads this might not always be possible which is why you will be asked to list your second and third choice as well.

Even if you are assigned to a particular committee, in order for the Club to be successful and vibrant we need everyone to work together as a team on the fundraising committee. This ensures successful fundraising projects which in turn means funds for the various community, literacy, youth and international projects.

One of the foundations of Rotary is fellowship and it's important that you get to know your fellow Rotarians and we invite all members to join us in the unofficial sixth avenue of Rotary service –  Is it fun!  Thank you in advance for your service in the 2015/16 Rotary year.

Nepal Relief - Fundraising for a country in need
Submitted by PP Hendrik van Genderen

Rotarian Krishna Mani is working closely with the Indian community to organize a curry lunch on Sunday 14 June at the Catholic Church. Proceeds from the lunch will be donated through Rotary Sunrise to the Rotary Foundation to their specific (DAF) Donor Advised Fund set up for the earthquake relief in Nepal.

Lunches are prepared by some of the best Indian restaurants. The price is $15 and tickets will be made available at our club meeting.

Nepal Disaster Donations
A DAF Account has been set up at the Rotary Foundation for Nepal Relief.  At our meeting of Council of Governors, it was agreed to encourage all Clubs desirous of donating to this cause, that they do so by way of the DAF Account specified below in this email.
The donation can be sent directly to the Rotary Foundation to be deposited to Account 539 for Nepal Earthquake Relief.
