Rotarians, Rotaractors and Earlyactors joined together to bring entertainment to the residents at The Pines last Saturday afternoon for our annual birthday celebration event. Christmas carols were sung as Rotarians Chris and Jocelyn played songs on the piano and we all sang along to classics such as Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer and Jingle Bells among others.
The lunch for the day was catered by Champion House and consisted of Bar-B-Q chicken, rice and beans, fried plantain, steamed vegetables and fried fish with gravy. There was also a delicious vanilla sheet cake that everyone enjoyed along with homemade sugar cookies with homemade icing baked by Director Ivana, PE Dawn and VP Deirdre. Some of the residents were not able to join us downstairs, so their food was delivered to them and some Rotarians and Rotaractors took the party to them upstairs.
In all, it was a very enjoyable day. Special thanks to the event organisers and to all Rotarians, Rotaractors, Earlyactors and parents of the kids who came out to celebrate with the residents.
Our Earlyactors were creative, busy bees last week as they made birthday cards for Pines residents, Ms. Olive and Ms. Jennie as they celebrate birthdays in November. The kids paired in groups and were excited to use glitter glue, markers and felt flowers to decorate their cards.
There are 29 members in the Earlyact Club at GT Primary School and they meet every other Wednesday at 1:15pm in the Music Room and with such a large group, we are asking fellow Rotarians to show support and join them in their meeting to see what these amazing kids are doing to impact their community.
Thank you to President Christine, VP Deirdre, Secretary Martha, Directors Jerrell and Ivana and Rotarin Rachel for helping with the group last week.
On Thursday 12th November, some of our newly inducted Rotarians and Prospective Members joined President Christine, Geoff, Stacy, Jerrel, Deirdre and Hendrik at Casa Matthews to ‘Discover The World of Rotary'. The meeting was not only an opportunity for members to enhance their knowledge of Rotary International, The Foundation and our Club but it was also an excellent fellowship evening where we got to know each other better. President Christine first took the attendees through the basics and fielded questions.
We then had a short break where engaged in some light food and wine etc. The evening was then completed with an exciting and very competitive game of Rotary Jeopardy. It is safe to say that the evening was a success particularly as major fire disaster was averted by the alertness of Director Deirdre (no other details will be forthcoming on that topic and remember apart from what was disclosed above, what happens at Casa Matthews stays at Casa Matthews). So I would like to thank everyone who made the effort to attend and in particular Hazel, Sharon, Dean, Ferlyn, Karelle, Keisha and Paul.

Make-ups: In addition to make-up opportunities at Rotary Sunrise, you can make up absences at another Club in Grand Cayman. The meeting times and places for the other Clubs are:

If members are unable to make a regular weekly meeting or Rotary event, make-ups can be done online. The e-Club website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the site and answer some questions to get the make up certificate.
Traveling: If you are going to be traveling for an extended period of time (more than two weeks), be sure to let the Secretary know and remember to submit any make-ups you do in a timely manner.
