"A super rad park that covers a massive area and features heaps of rad bowls, snake runs, banks and a sweet full pipe section" is how the Black Pearl Skate Park describes itself on their website.
Located in Red Bay, just behind Hurleys, the 52,000 square foot park that is ranked the largest skate park in the western hemisphere, and the second largest in the world, is operated by the Cayman Islands Skateboard Association (CISA). Their mission is “to maintain a world-class skate park in the Cayman Islands; to keep the park a healthy, safe environment, free of graffiti and litter, while fostering self-confidence, good health, strength and pride with the youth of our islands.”
Michael Myles, the ministry of Educations At-Risk Youth Coordinator and chairman of the association is responsible for its operation. Mr. Myles thanked our club for their donation of $2500 that will help light the park and buy additional equipment.
Community Director Anthony Lawson visited the park with Mr. Myles, and told the club last week that he is amazed at what has been accomplished so far with limited resources. The 2015-16 statistics for teens committing offences are shocking he says.
Opened in 2005, the park had been unsupervised leaving it open for vandalism, drug use, bullying and other harmful activities by youth. Since taking it over, CISA has restored it for safe community use, hosting more than 2000 skaters, bikers and scooter riders, most of whom are young teens. Mr. Myles believes skateboarding provides an outlet for youth that keeps them out of trouble, off the streets and involved in fun, constructive activities. He said it is an avenue to reach at-risk youngsters and get them on the right path.
The Rotary Foundation Receives aHigh Score
The Rotary Foundation has received the highest possible score from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.
In the most recent ratings, released on 1 September, The Rotary Foundation earned the maximum 100 points for both financial health and accountability and transparency.
The ratings reflect how efficiently Charity Navigator believes the Foundation will use donations, how well it has sustained programs and services, and its level of commitment to good governance and openness.
In the previous rating, the Foundation had received 97 points.

Meeting Make-Up Information
Make-ups: In addition to make-up opportunities at Rotary Sunrise, you can make up absences at another Club in Grand Cayman. The meeting times and places for the other Clubs are:

If members are unable to make a regular weekly meeting or Rotary event, make-ups can be done online. The e-Club website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the site and answer some questions to get the make up certificate.
Traveling: If you are going to be traveling for an extended period of time (more than two weeks), be sure to let the Secretary know and remember to submit any make-ups you do in a timely manner.
