Club Gives
$15,000
To Feed Our
 Future

Rotary Sunrise has signed on as the generous sponsor of Feed Our Future's 2017 Summer Food programme - 'A Recipe for Summer' - donating $15,000.

Feed Our Future's Summer Food Programme -  ‘A Recipe for Summer’ - was established in 2014 with an aim to bridge the gap that summer presents for those children who rely on a subsidised meal at school.  'A Recipe for Summer' was also designed to expose families to healthier food options and to equip them to cook, healthier foods for their children. The programme fosters good habits related to the planning of meals and stretching the food available to them.  This programme reaches up to 100 children each summer.

It is only possible through generous community partners like Rotary Sunrise that the impact of Feed Our Future can be felt.

 Club Gives
   To Drug Court

Rotary Sunrise once again made a contribution to the Drug Rehabilitation Court (DRC) program.  Our club has provided $2,500 worth of movie tickets, Foster's gift cards, and Book Nook/Books and Books gift certificates, which will be provided as incentives to clients and graduates of the DRC program as long as they remain and are participating in the programme.

The DRC is a voluntary programme for offenders charged with drug and drug-related offences .  An alternative to the regular criminal adjudication, the DRC Team consists of a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, probation officer, social worker, and treatment provider who collaborate and design appropriate treatment, counseling, as well as rewards and sanctions to reduce the offender’s dependency on illegal drugs.

            Community

We will be hosting the community in Swamp Park this month on Saturday March 25th Save the date.

             Literacy

- Rotarians Pauline and Woody championed Buy a Kid a Book (no, not Feed Children Books)(though a steady diet of reading is a wonderful idea). Along with our Rotarian volunteers, we raised $3000 which will go toward class libraries in our public schools.
- We are presently considering working with Rotary Central to send students to debate camp. More information to follow in the coming weeks.

            Men In Shoes

Are our guys from Rotary Sunrise men enough? If yes, Cayman Islands Crisis Center (CICC) would like to invite the male members of the Rotary to participate in their fundraising event: A Walk in Her Shoes (females too but only as a support system or an audience).

This event will take place on the 8th of March which is the International Women’s Day and the 14th anniversary of the CICC inception. A lot to celebrate! Participants could either walk individually or form a Rotary Sunrise team.

This link will give you an idea of what the 2016 event looked like and hopefully will make all our male club members to say yes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oAn4GPRhEI&feature=youtu.be

And this is where they can register as well as find more information regarding this event: https://www.crowdrise.com/AWalkinHerShoes I truly hope that Rotary Sunrise can put together a team and will walk for this great cause on the 8th of March.

This event is not only a fun fundraiser but it also raises awareness and talking about hands on – or rather heels on project!

Literacy at Sunrise
Last week Education Specialist Brad Wilson gave the club a lowdown on where and what our $50,000 grant will target. The Reading Recovery Program will help those students who struggle to get extra help. Trained teachers will run the program, which will take place at Prospect Primary.

          B.A.G.

Let's share Rotary with others!

Beginning Wednesday1st March 2017 and for each meeting, fellowship or community sunrise club event in March 2017 you are encouraged to bring a guest to share our Rotary fellowship/ experience!

If you Bring A Guest (B.A.G.) make sure you complete the entry form with your name, guest name, date and email and place it in the draw.

At the last meeting in March, one entry form will be drawn and both the Rotarian and the Guest on that winning form will win two (2) free breakfast each at a future Rotary Sunrise meeting at GTYC.

Guidelines for B.A.G draw:
  1. Period of B.A.G: 1st March 2017 to 31st March 2017
  2. One slip per guest visit. All Sunrise Rotarians with Guests are welcome to participate even if your Guest has visited multiple times in the past.
  3. The entry form must be placed in the BAG before the end of the meeting/event that the Guest attended.
  4. Guests attending committee meetings during the month of March not excluded however, community and fellowship events guests are eligible.
  5. There is no cash value for the prize.
  6. Have fun and know that you and your Guests are welcomed and appreciated!
So Bring A Guest (BAG) and get as many entry forms into the draw during March as you want!

Rotarian Franz from Austria found us after a lengthy search. He suggested a poster at the airport for future Rotarians to consider upon arrival. There are 160 clubs in his area of Austria.
