The President of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, Ewan Jacques has shared the following information with us on their new endeavor, the Lions Pantry.
The Lions Club of Grand Cayman has recently established a
Food Pantry Programme to provide necessary supplies to individuals with genuine emergency needs, and in particular the most vulnerable in our society - the youth and the elderly.
Donations to the Pantry are provided by various vendor sponsors who have been extremely generous in their support of the Programme. Also, on September 19th the Club held its first Food Drive at a number of supermarkets across the island. Lions Volunteers collected items from the general public, who were also very generous in their donations. Between the vendor donations and the Food Drive we have been able to fill the Pantry with non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby supplies etc. This is a long-term project for the Club and we expect that the vendor donations and the ongoing food drives will continue to keep the Pantry stocked.
In terms of identifying persons in need, we receive references directly from the DCFS, the Churches and other service organizations. These representatives are constantly in the field and have first-hand knowledge of where the needs exist in our Community.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Pantry is not in a position to provide long-term care to any persons, but we do assist with filling short-term identified needs.
