This Week's News
Lions Club Food Pantry

The President of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, Ewan Jacques has shared the following information with us on their new endeavor, the Lions Pantry.
The Lions Club of Grand Cayman has recently established a Food Pantry Programme to provide necessary supplies to individuals with genuine emergency needs, and in particular the most vulnerable in our society - the youth and the elderly.

Donations to the Pantry are provided by various vendor sponsors who have been extremely generous in their support of the Programme.  Also, on September 19th the Club held its first Food Drive at a number of supermarkets across the island.  Lions Volunteers collected items from the general public, who were also very generous in their donations.  Between the vendor donations and the Food Drive we have been able to fill the Pantry with non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby supplies etc.  This is a long-term project for the Club and we expect that the vendor donations and the ongoing food drives will continue to keep the Pantry stocked.

In terms of identifying persons in need,  we receive references directly from the DCFS, the Churches and other service organizations. These representatives are constantly in the field and have first-hand knowledge of where the needs exist in our Community.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Pantry is not in a position to provide long-term care to any persons, but we do assist with filling short-term identified needs.

Requests can be sent directly cilionsfoodpantry@gmail.com and we will provide a response within 24 hours.

Last Week at Rotary Sunrise
If you missed us last week at Rotary Sunrise, here is a brief rundown of what happened:

  • Rotarian Claude received the Rotarian of the Month award!
  • Paul Robinson from the Cayman Islands Information Professionals (CIIP) was our guest speaker
  • A donation of CI $600 was made to CIIP from the Literacy Committee
  • Former Sunriser Aur Beck visited the club while he was on island
  • New Rotarian Dean Heyne won the raffle (even though it seemed that he lost his ticket, we trust the 4 way test was applied!)

Tickets now available for the Rotary Gala of the Year!

There are only 25 days to go until the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Gala!

As you maybe aware, the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman will be celebrating their 50th year in grand style at the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman on the 29th January 2016. And their special invited guest, would be Rotary International President Ravi K. Ravindran.  This is truly a significant event as a RI President as never visited our district let alone the Cayman Islands before.

Therefore, the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman has invited us all to come out and celebrate with them for a night of fun and celebration.
Tickets are KYD$150.00 per person. Dress Code: Black Tie.

So far from Rotary Sunrise we have 13 members/friends signed up online and I positive more persons are interested in attending. Let's have a strong show of support for this historic event.

Tickets can be collected from me at Wednesday's meeting or simply email me to arrange a convenient pick-up. Cash or cheque accepted.

Contact Director Stacy for more info or to get your tickets.
