Ordering Breakfast on Wednesday?
Due to the GT Yacht Club now open to the public for breakfast, Club Members are being asked to place their breakfast orders with the wait staff at the register by the coffee station. This will not only speed the ordering process but you will receive your meal faster. In addition, if the water jug at your table needs a refill, kindly have someone bring it to the coffee station for a top up.

Literacy Month
3rd Annual BedRace for Polio

The third annual Bed Race to end polio will take place on Saturday 15 March at the George Town Waterfront. The club’s bed, sponsored by the Water Authority, has the theme “Sunrise – Good Morning Cayman”. The bed has been fine-tuned to deliver excellent race performance and will make a splashing and colourful appearance, so the Sunrise race team has a good chance to do well.
Rotarians are encouraged to help out with:
This Close – End Polio commercial
Timing of the race
Selling raffle tickets
Master of Ceremony
and several other bits and pieces.
There is no excuse not to come. Help out or come as a spectator to cheer for Sunrise. You can bring the family as there will be a kid corner with activities for the young ones.
Please spread the word in your office, so that there will be a crowd to make this the best Bed Race ever.
Set-up starts at noon
judging of the beds is from 1 – 2 pm
and the race starts at 2 pm
The prize ceremony will be at Margaritaville from 3:30 pm onwards

Why Don't They Know?

March seems to be steeped in Polio-Plus campaigns. There was the photo-op at casino Night for the World's Biggest Commercial using the "We're this close" gesture and this weekend we have the Cayman Islands Bed Race to combat polio.
But what alarms me is that year after year, there are always several members of the public who exclaim, "I thought polio had been eradicated years ago!"
Maybe it's because as Rotarians we are inundated with information about the ongoing global fight to end polio. And perhaps it's because we're constantly bombarded that we may presume others are equally aware of this ongoing battle.
But it isn't necessarily so.
Please don't be shy about sharing Rotary's efforts against polio with your friends and acquaintances.
Please do ensure that people know the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is TRIPLING the value of every donation Rotary raises in the fight against polio.
And please don't become complacent about reminding people that one Cayman dollar is enough to immunize two children...which currently becomes six children thanks to the Gates multiplier effect!
Now is the time to remind the world that we're still battling polio. Because we really are "this close" to the day when we'll never have to talk about it again.

Topic: Celebrating Rotaract Week
Every year, World Rotaract Week honors the chartering of the first club in North Carolina, USA, on 13 March 1968. Rotaract was officially inaugurated during January 1968 under R.I. President Luther Hodges. World Rotaract Week, observed annually the week of 13 March, is designed to foster Rotaract-Rotary activities in celebration of the founding of the Rotaract program. This event is also an excellent opportunity to inform members of your community about the amazing work that Rotaract clubs do, and give them an opportunity to get involved. Rotaract clubs and their sponsor Rotary clubs have the freedom to explore a variety of methods of participating in World Rotaract Week.
Rotary Sunrise has traditionally offered up the Wednesday meeting as an opportunity for the Rotaractors to "invade" and lead the meeting in Rotaract style. Rotarians benefit from the opportunity to get to know more about our Rotaract club while at the same time getting energized by their enthusiasm and spirit.

Laptop Donation Aids CALS Programme

As previously announced at an earlier meeting this year, Ms. Ramona Melody, Director of the Cayman Islands Public Library Service was very grateful to have received a generous donation of laptops from Rotarian Tony Cowell and KPMG. In a thank you letter to Rotarian Tony dated January 2014, Ms. Melody wanted to share with all of Rotary Sunrise how appricative she was for the donation to the Public Library in support of the CALS programme.
Mr. Cowell,
I am writing to express my deep appreciation for the donation of 5 laptops. The laptops allow us to offer continuing education opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. Your generosity also reminds us that it takes many partners to develop a truly literate society.
A part of the Public Library Service mission is to provide ongoing learning opportunities for our citizens. However, many of the best programs are only offered online or through computerized programming. We are therefore constantly challenged to find ways of securing the technology needed to offer quality learning programs at our branch locations.
Thanks to your kind donation, we are now able to provide opportunities for 5 students to participate in the Computer Assisted Literacy Solutions (CALS) program; self-paced course designed to help learners enhance their reading and math skills.
I have high hopes for the CALS program and will, with your permission, provide you with periodic updates on how students are faring. In closing, I would once again like to express my gratitude and would also like to invite you to come over and see the program in action whenever you might be available.
