Great Fun at the 3rd Annual Rotary Bed Race!
Submitted by Communications

Last Saturday we enjoyed a great day at the 3rd annual Rotary Bed Race to End Polio Now. This year team Electra Tech Busy Bees (dressed in yellow) were victorious making them the winning team for 2 straight years! Our very own Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman came in a close second, and although Team Rotary Sunrise didn't make it past the first heats, we sure had fun and we'll make a come back next year! Check out the photos below to see all of the teams who took part.

This annual event raises funds to end polio which still affects 3 countries, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Every dollar raised is matched 2-1 by the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation. Thank you to all Rotarians and friends who participated or came out to show support.

Guest Speakers - Representatives for Matter More
Submitted by Communications

In 2000, Megan and Dennis Doyle started Hope for the City because they saw corporate surplus as an opportunity, not a problem. After seeing material resources that still had value going to waste, they decided to take action. It became their calling to get those resources into the hands of people that could benefit, specifically people living in scarcity. Over the next 14 years, we’ve evolved to become an organization that has helped distribute more than $550 million in wholesale goods to people in need all over the world. And that was just the beginning. We’ve come to understand, while the amount of goods donated is great, the number of lives impacted is something far greater and more important. Through the simple act of being resourceful, we are addressing the needs of people living in scarcity while creating a better world.

Today, we have grown to be called Matter. A name that stands for not only what we distribute, but also a call to action for us all to matter more. Although our name has changed, we will always be an organization founded at the intersection of faith and opportunity. As we continue on our journey, we look forward to partnering with people and organizations that will help us serve our mission. Join us, in creating a world where we all matter. Join us for this week's meeting to hear from Mr. Quenton Marty, President, and Mr. Jeremy Newhouse, VP of Operations, at Matter More. Visit http://mattermore.org.

2015 Audi Q5 Car Raffle Begins!
Submitted by IPP, Tony Catalanotto

As you are aware, we officially kicked off the selling of tickets for our club's single largest fundraiser of the year! Spots for selling tickets began at ALT's in the morning and I heard that Rotarian Susan Fraser signed up and completely sold 1 of her books while there! Ticket sales them moved to where the Rotary Bed Race took place, on the waterfront of George Town.

Going forward....once again, Rotarian Steve has gone to great lengths to coordinate ticket selling locations for every Saturday between tomorrow and the June 27 draw date but once again all this hard work will be for not, unless we ALL get behind this fundraiser and sign up to sell tickets. All that is required, is a couple of hours of your Saturday (Service Above Self) to sit behind a table and ask people to buy a ticket for a chance to win the brand new 2015 AUDI Q5 (which will be on display to help sell the tickets) while at the same time, helping to support all of Rotary's great causes.

If we ALL do get behind this, our club can easily net $75K - $100K and just think of all the great things that your club can do with these proceeds. Think of the kids that we can help......think of the elderly that we can help..........think of all those less fortunate than us that we can help, or just remind yourself of why you joined Rotary!

Well by now you know that I have embraced this fundraiser and will do all that I can, to ensure that you do all that you can, to ensure that we as a club succeed with it!  My expectation (and yours should be as well) is that each and every club member do their best, but returning unsold tickets without making a valiant attempt to sell them, is simply not an option.

Oh, one last thing, this year we will be set up to take credit cards and based on past experience, this should help increase ticket sales. At the ticket selling location, there will be a manual credit card imprinter along with some blank credit card slips. Just insert the client's card and blank slip, swipe the imprinter across both and have the client sign.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated support and good luck to us all on a VERY SUCCESSFUL fundraiser!

Buy a Kid a Book Collections Update
Submitted by Communications & Literacy Committee

Thank you to all Rotarians who volunteered last Saturday to raise funds for the Rotary Sunrise Buy a Kid a Book Program. It was another good day as members of the public stepped right up and dropped their donations in the box. Over $750 dollars were raised between 2 locations. All of the funds raised will be used to purchase library books for government schools.
Many thanks to the Sunrise Rotarians (and Rotary friends) who manned the collection table at Kirk Supermarket & Cost u Less.
We've got 1 more weekend to go, volunteers will be at Foster's Strand location this Saturday, March 28th. Thank you to those who have signed up!

Getting to know Rotarian Jerrell Garner
Submitted by Communications

Rotarian Jerrell Garner - Just a little something about me.
I would call myself an outdoorsman and love being in the woods  my beautiful wife Dee would agree if you should ask her  and I  enjoy hunting deer, rabbits, and turkey. To me turkey are the most elusive and to put it blankly there a pain in the bunkie to hunt. Their eyesight  I have read is next to the eagle. All I know is they can see you move even when you can’t see them and that is a fact.  I also enjoy horseback riding and I used to show horses and even team rope. One time I even wanted to learn to bulldog which is part of rodeo competition.

I remember my friends telling me you have to learn to flip the stir from the ground first before doing it off the horse no problem I am tough so one night after roping. I stood beside the shoot and my good friend Billy Ray who for some odd reason has always called Geraldine said are you ready and I said yes  he let the steer out and away we went.
I was trying to flip the steer and he was having no part of it by the time it was all said and done we were at the other end of the arena. Needless to say I was covered in sand and horse poop and cow poop. I laid there out of breath and the steer was looking at me as to say what’s up.  I decided I would just stick to roping and leave bulldogging to someone else.
